The statement on these sausages is 100% correct in calling them a “versatile sausage for any occasion”. When I was a kid on Christmas Eve we’d go to my Nanny’s and eat appetizer type foods for dinner. At the time I didn’t realize how simple the foods we had were. We’d have homemade cucumber dip, cheese and crackers, mini egg rolls and cocktail sausages quite like these ones. So eating these brings on some serious nostalgia.

These were on sale at Costco for $11.99 Canadian, the regular price was $14.99 Canadian. These aren’t super cheap but they’re not extremely expensive. I felt way better paying the sale price than I would the regular price. You do get quite a few sausages in the package and two different kids.

These are simple and tasty little sausages that go well with so many different things, they’re not overly salty tasting and they have a lot of flavor. There’s not a huge difference between the double smoked and three cheese flavors, the three cheese definitely have a slight hint of cheese but it’s not an artificial cheese taste. I probably wouldn’t use the three cheese flavor with pancakes or waffles but I would use it with eggs, as an appetizer, on a charcuterie board or with pierogies. The cocktail sausages hold their heat reasonably well when you cook them up and get nice and brown in the fry pan. They are slightly oily tasting but I didn’t find any gross, hard bits of meat in my sausages so that was definitely appreciated.

These are very convenient, you basically can just cook them up in a fry pan or microwave them. I always do mine in the fry pan to get them nice and crispy on the outside which is what I prefer. The expiry date on the package is quite long but I recommenced freezing them. You can separate them into smaller zip lock bags and they freeze just perfectly in the freezer.

Nutritionally, these aren’t great for you. First of all they don’t have the healthiest ingredients, there’s preservatives, sugar and corn syrup. Five sausages is 170 calories, 14 grams of fat, seven grams of protein and 470 mg of sodium. They’re quite high in fat and sodium but the calories aren’t outrageous for five sausages.

The Costco Olympic Smoked Cocktail sausgaes are a great product to have around the holiday season, they’re simply tasty and pair well with some many foods. You can use them as an appetizer, have them for breakfast or add them to your charcuterie board. There’s just so many ways to use them. Yes, they’re not the healthiest but around the holidays people just want to enjoy good food with family and friends a lot of the time.
