Our family goes through a lot of butter each week, so while we were vacationing in Hawaii, we definitely needed to pick some up. We don’t have Kirkland Signature Salted Sweet Cream Butter at Costco in Canada, so when I spotted it at the Costco in Maui, I decided to give it a try. I expected it to taste similar to New Zealand butter, but a little sweeter. Find out whether it lived up to my expectations by reading the review below!

Location in Store
This is located in the refrigerated dairy and egg section of Costco near the Kirkland Signature Grass Fed Butter and the Kirkland Signature Organic Hard Boiled Eggs. The item number is 44111.
Taste
We enjoyed this butter, but it’s not quite as good as the New Zealand butter that Costco sells. It’s creamy, rich, and slightly salty. Four adults tried it, and none of us noticed any sweetness, which was a bit disappointing.

I expected at least a slight hint of sweetness based on it being “sweet cream” butter. However, it simply tasted like regular, good-quality butter to me.

Cost
The 1.81-kilogram box contains four one-pound blocks of butter and costs $10.89 USD. That works out to about $2.72 per block, which isn’t bad!

Convenience
The butter comes in individually wrapped one-pound blocks, so we kept one block in the butter dish at a time. It’s great for cooking eggs, spreading on bread or toast, or using anywhere you’d normally use butter.

I didn’t try baking with it, so I can’t comment on how it performs in baked goods. If you don’t think you’ll use all four pounds before the use-by date, you can always freeze the extra blocks.
Nutrition
Calories
One tablespoon of butter contains 100 calories, 11 grams of fat, 90 milligrams of sodium, zero grams of carbohydrates, zero grams of fibre, zero grams of sugar, and zero grams of protein. Butter is naturally high in fat and calories, but in my opinion, it’s a healthy source of fat.

Ingredients
The ingredients list is as short as it gets, which is exactly what you want in butter: just pasteurized cream and salt. The butter is also gluten-free and soy-free.

Overall
Give it a try!
Is this the best butter I’ve ever had? No, definitely not, but it’s still pretty good and I wouldn’t hesitate to buy it again, especially since it’s so affordable!
