Costco Rana Mushroom Ravioli & Wagyu Beef Sauce Review

Rana is a popular brand of fresh pasta that Costco regularly carries in its refrigerated section. The company is always introducing new pasta varieties, and the latest one to catch my eye is Rana Mushroom Ravioli with Wagyu Beef Sauce. I decided to give this Costco pasta a try, even though I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about the mushroom flavor. Was it worth buying, or did I regret my decision? Read the review below to find out what I thought of the Rana Mushroom Ravioli with Wagyu Beef Sauce.

Location in Store

If you’re looking for the Rana Mushroom Ravioli with Wagyu Beef Sauce at Costco, you can find it in the refrigerated section near the deli meats, cheeses, and other fresh pasta options. It’s typically stocked alongside products such as Scoiattolo Chicken Cacciatore Ravioli and Boursin Cheese. The Costco item number for Rana Mushroom Ravioli with Wagyu Beef Sauce is 2062968,

Taste

The Rana Mushroom Ravioli & Beef Sauce has a pretty strong mushroom flavor, and there’s a decent amount of filling in each ravioli. The filling has quite a pronounced mushroom taste, and the mushrooms in the sauce and ravioli have a noticeable texture. The pasta itself is slightly doughy, while the beef sauce tastes more like a beef gravy with small amounts of ground beef.

The sauce is quite salty, and I find that the beef flavor overpowers the mushroom flavor from the pasta and filling. However, all the flavors complement each other quite well, and I actually like that the beef flavor is more prominent than the mushroom because I don’t love the flavor of mushrooms. Mushroom pasta isnt my favorite, but for what it is, I think it’s a decent pasta dish.

Cost

The 900-gram package of Rana Mushroom Ravioli with Wagyu Beef Sauce costs $17.99 Canadian, which I think is definitely on the expensive side for a pasta meal. You’re paying for the convenience, as well as the fact that this is fresh pasta with a prepared sauce. Whether the higher price is worth it depends on how much you value having a quick and easy meal ready to go.

Convenience

Preparing the Rana Mushroom Ravioli with Wagyu Beef Sauce is relatively easy, although you do have to dirty two pots! The ravioli needs to be boiled for about four minutes, while the Wagyu beef sauce is heated separately in a saucepan or pot. Once the ravioli is cooked, simply drain it and add it to the heated sauce.

The ravioli and sauce need to be kept refrigerated until you’re ready to use them. If you don’t think you’ll be able to use the package before the best-before date, you could potentially freeze it for later, although I haven’t personally tried freezing this particular product.

I recommend serving the Costco Rana ravioli with a big garden salad on the side. The fresh salad adds some crunch and vegetables to the meal and makes for a more complete dinner.

Nutrition

Calories

According to the package, a 1¼-cup (300-gram) serving of the prepared Rana Mushroom Ravioli with Wagyu Beef Sauce contains 540 calories, 27 grams of fat, 52 grams of carbohydrates, 5 grams of fibre, 11 grams of sugar, 24 grams of protein, and a whopping 1,570 milligrams of sodium.

That’s quite a lot of calories, fat, carbohydrates, and sodium for one serving. The 24 grams of protein and 5 grams of fibre are positives, but the 1,570 milligrams of sodium really stands out to me. If you’re watching your sodium intake, this is definitely something to keep in mind when deciding whether the Costco Rana ravioli is worth buying.

Ingredients

The ingredients list is really extensive but there aren’t a ton of extremely unhealthy ingredients like additives, preservatives etc. What I don’t love seeing is “flavors” and “natural flavors” being listed because you don’t really know what those even are. The ravioli and sauce contains wheat, soy, sesame, oyster, eggs and milk.
