I love the expression my dad makes when he sees some of the food I buy from Costco, especially if it’s a “healthy” seeming item. It’s this super skeptical look that says “why did you buy that” and “don’t even think about asking me to try those”. This is the look I got when I brought over my huge bag of POPCORNERS Salt Of The Earth Bean Crisps to my parents’ house.

Taste

You can definitely taste the split pea and black bean when eating these! They have a pea-ish bean-ish subtle flavor to them. The texture is like a very flat, crunchy, hearty, rice cake/tortilla hybrid. They have a healthy and earthy after taste but that doesn’t stop them from being addictive. I find the taste grows on you the more you eat them. They’re lightly salted and quite flavorful. I enjoy them alone but think that they’d go well with various dips and spreads. They’re quite satisfying so I don’t feel the need to eat like 100 of them at the time.

Cost

The 510 gram bag cost $3.89 Canadian on sale at Costco. The regular price is $5.89 Canadian. For a huge bag of gluten free, NON GMO bean crisps I think this is pretty reasonable!

Convenience

My only complaint is that the bag is no resealable so get your clothes pins or bag clips out! The POPCORNERS bean crisps are versatile and could be paired with many different dips or spreads. Salsa, hummus, tzatziki, cheese or even bruschetta!

Nutrition

34 crisps is 190 calories, four and a half grams of fat, seven grams of protein, 340 mg of sodium and four grams of fibre, one gram of sugar, 32 grams of carbohydrates. A little high in carbs but the other nutrition information looks pretty awesome considering the high protein, low fat and low calories. Honestly I would be completely satisfied with quite a few less than 34 crisps.

So my dad actually turned out to really like these and I ended up leaving the bag at my parents’ house for him to enjoy. Looks can be deceiving but these really are pretty tasty! Don’t let the bean idea turn you off of this delicious healthier than potato chips snack option.

  1. I was wondering if you have discontinued carrying the Bean Crisps from PopCorners? I haven’t seen them for at least a year. They are a great healthy alternative to potato chips. I do see that you continue to carry the PopCorner brand.
