Costco Kirkland Signature Chantilly Cake Review

The Costco bakery is always rolling out new creations, and one of its latest is the beautifully decorated Chantilly Cake. With its elegant presentation, it looks like something straight out of a restaurant display case. But does the taste live up to the appearance? Read on to find out!

Location in Store

The cake is located in the refrigerated bakery section near the Tuxedo Cake and the Tiramisu Scoop Cake. The item number is 1937040.

Taste

We served this for Father’s Day and everyone seemed to really enjoy it. It’s a restaurant quality tasting and looking cake. The cake has a whipped cream/cream cheese icing on top that has a very mild cheesecake flavor.

The filling inside has a strong blueberry flavor that’s sweet and fruity. The cake itself is plain sponge cake that’s light, flavorful and moist. All of the components of the cake go well together and result in a pretty light, fruity and delicious tasting dessert.

Cost

This chantilly cake isn’t cheap but it’s quite large and fancy looking! I paid $27.99 Canadian for it and I’d say it could serve atleast 12-16 people depending on how big the slices are.

Convenience

Due to the cake being so light it gets pretty soggy after a day or two from the fruit filling and icing. The best before date on the cake is five days from when I purchased it but I think at the five day mark you’d have a pretty wet tasting cake.

The cake needs to be kept refrigerated and I don’t recommend freezing it. This cake is perfect for a baby shower, bridal shower or any summer celebration. It’s very aesthetically pleasing and looks like it came from a fancy bakery!

Nutrition

Calories

1/26th of the cake contains 260 calories, 16 grams of fat, 26 grams of carbohydrates, one gram of fibre, 14 grams of sugar, three grams of protein and 160 milligrams of sodium. That’s a pretty small serving so keep in mind a lot of individuals will eat much more than that.

Ingredients

I love the taste of the cake but don’t love the ingredients. I’m sad to see corn syrup, palm oil, artificial flavour, carrageen and preservatives/additives. One of the benefits of making cake at home from scratch is that you can use simple, whole ingredients. The cake contains milk, wheat and egg. It may contain soy, barley, oats, triticale, tree nuts, peanut and sesame.
