Costco Hi-Chew Candy Review

Hi-Chew is the famous fruity candy from Japan that you can now find at Costco! It’s known for its exceptionally fruity flavor and long-lasting chewy texture. I hadn’t tried Hi-Chew before, but I’d heard all the rave reviews, so I had to buy a bag when I saw them at Costco. Am I completely hooked, or was it just a one-time purchase? Find out by reading on!

Location in Store

The Hi-Chew candy is located in the snack/candy section, near the front of the store. They’re located by the Unreal Dark Chocolate Coconut Minis and the Kirkland Signature S’mores Clusters. The item number is 303238.

Taste

There are four different flavors in the bag, and I tried all of them! The green apple is very chewy. It has a typical artificial green apple flavor that’s similar to other green apple candies I’ve had. It’s sweet with a hint of tartness.

The grape is really good. It tastes like grape soda or a grape popsicle. It’s an artificial grape flavor. I like how all the kinds have a nice, strong fruity flavor. Although they’re sweet, they don’t taste like just sugar.

The strawberry has an enjoyable artificial strawberry flavor. The flavor is a little less strong than the apple and grape. The strawberry is nice and sweet but still fruity.

The mango is amazing. It’s a little more on the mild side—maybe slightly milder than the strawberry. It has a nice mango flavor and is a little less artificial-tasting; it reminds me a bit of dried mango.

Overall, they give you a jaw workout—they’re soft but very chewy. They’re all pretty tasty, and my favorite is probably the mango or grape, but they’re all pretty good.

Cost

The 500-gram bag costs $9.99 CAD, which isn’t bad considering it’s a pretty big bag. Hi-Chew is a product of Japan, which also makes these a little more unique and harder to find!

Convenience

There are four different flavors in the bag: grape, green apple, strawberry, and mango. Each Hi-Chew is individually wrapped. The best-before date is almost exactly one year from when I purchased them.

These are great for any candy lover. My husband loves candy like this, but I’m more of a chocolate girl. Kids also seem to really love these—I think it’s because they’re colorful, sweet, and fruity!

Ingredients

There’s quite a few unhealthy ingredients in there, like sugars, palm kernel oil, artificial flavors, and additives like sorbitan tristearate. But the good news is, Hi-Chew candy is gluten-free, dairy-free, and soy-free.

Overall

Give it a try!

I prefer Starburst or Skittles over them but I still like these a lot and will have no problem finishing my bag!

  1. Publix has these as a BOGO this week so I bought two bags. They have at least3 bags with different flavors. The one I opened has green apple, mango and dragon fruit. I was expecting more of a Starburst candy and it isn’t. I thought the flavors were mild, texture was odd but then again, I expected Starburst. Not sure if these will be a buy again
