Costco Leanfit Organic Plant-Based Vanilla Protein Review

With so many protein powders to choose fro at Costco, it can be hard to know which one to buy. I prefer plant-based options, so I picked up Leanfit Organic Plant-Based Vanilla Protein, and it might be my new favorite. Read on to find out why.

This is located in the pharmacy/supplement aisle at Costco, near the Leanfit Sport Plant Performance Protein and the Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey. The item number is 1633408.

Taste

This is one of my favorite plant-based proteins that I’ve tried. I’ll start by saying no plant-based protein powder is going to be the best thing you’ve ever consumed. Protein powders serve a specific purpose: helping you get more protein into your diet.

This has an artificial vanilla flavor that’s really sweet. I find it too sweet, but I haven’t found any protein powder that isn’t, in my opinion. If you use it in a smoothie, add some tart berries like blackberries—the sweetness from the powder balances out nicely. The texture is pretty smooth, and it mixes easily.

I usually drink it with almond milk or water, and I recommend pouring it over ice to take the edge off the sweetness. There’s definitely an earthy, legume-like flavor you get with plant-based proteins, but I’m used to that.

Cost

The two-kilogram bag costs $59.99 CAD, which might not seem cheap, but it’s a pretty big bag and contains about 71 servings. Plant-based protein is also usually a bit more expensive than whey or casein.

Convenience

This protein powder is obviously great for shakes, but it also works well in oatmeal, smoothies, and yogurt, and you could even try it in baking. I’ve used it in smoothies and oatmeal, and I’ve also had it on its own as a shake.

The powder comes in a large, resealable bag, and the best-before date is more than two years from when I purchased it. I recommend storing it in a cool, dry place.

Overall

Give it a try!

This is my go-to protein powder from Costco—I’ve bought it multiple times. I don’t think any protein powders taste amazing, but this is my favourite plant-based one.
