Costco Desobry Belgian Chocolate Biscuit Selection Review

When I bought these Desobry Belgian Chocolate Biscuits at Costco, I actually thought I was buying chocolates because the gold writing on the packaging is so hard to read—I just went off the picture. I was pleasantly surprised after trying these biscuits, which are only available at Costco during the Christmas season. Find out why by reading the review below!

Location in Store

These are located in the Christmas/seasonal aisle at Costco near the FoodToGo Dubai Style Brownies and the De Milan Dubai Style Chocolate Panettone, the item number is 1943827.

Taste

here are five different kinds of biscuits in the box and I tried each one with my husband and wrote notes. All of the biscuits are quite enjoyable and seem high quality. The chocolate is really rich and smooth, but overall these are definitely on the sweeter side and quite rich.

Ganache Praliné Blanc has a biscuit with hazelnut praline that’s coated in white chocolate with crunchy caramelized almond bits on top. The hazelnut praline on top of the biscuit doesn’t taste much like hazelnut to me; it mainly just tastes sweet. The crunchy bits of almond add some nice texture though.

Perle Intense is a thin, crispy biscuit with a chocolate cream filling on top that’s coated in dark chocolate and small bits of roasted cocoa beans. This one seems more like a truffle or chocolate to me than a biscuit. It’s quite good; the dark chocolate on the outside isn’t bitter and the cream filling is light and smooth.

Ganache Caramel is a biscuit with salted caramel on top that’s coated in milk chocolate. The butter biscuit is quite nice and the caramel flavor is strong. This is one of the sweeter cookies in the box.

Perle Vanille is a thin, crispy biscuit with vanilla cream on top, coated in white chocolate with cocoa powder on the outside. It’s quite sweet and the vanilla cream tastes similar to vanilla icing.

Ganache Intense is a butter biscuit with dark chocolate cream on top that’s coated in dark chocolate. It’s pretty sweet for dark chocolate and not bitter at all.l. The chocolate is creamy and the butter biscuit complements the chocolate nicely.

Cost

The 490 gram box comes with a total of 44 biscuits and costs $15.99 Canadian, which seems pretty reasonable to me after trying them. They’re quite good, and they’re made in Belgium.

Convenience

There are two separate trays of biscuits wrapped in plastic inside the red box with a lid. The packaging is very similar to a box of chocolates. There are 22 biscuits in each tray, and the best-before date is about nine months from when I purchased them.

These would be perfect to put out for guests during the holiday season as a dessert or sweet snack. One thing I don’t like is that the biscuit descriptions are written in small gold print on the back of the box, and it’s nearly impossible to read.

Nutrition

Calories

Three biscuits contain 170 calories, 10 grams of fat, 20 grams of carbohydrates, less than one gram of fibre, 15 grams of sugar, two grams of protein and 35 milligrams of sodium. Although these are small biscuits, they’re pretty rich, so I’m not surprised by the amount of calories or fat.

Ingredients

The ingredients list is printed in white, which is nice because you can actually read it. Of course, these cookies have lots of less-than-ideal ingredients like sugar, vegetable fats, vegetable oils and soy flour, but I do appreciate that they also use whole ingredients like milk, butter, eggs, nuts and bourbon vanilla extract from Madagascar. The cookies contain wheat, eggs, soy, milk and nuts such as hazelnuts and almonds, and they may contain traces of pistachios.

Although these are really sweet, what marshmallows aren’t sweet? If you like marshmallows and sea salt caramel, these will meet your fancy!
