Costco Yummy Doh Cookie Dough Review

It’s easy to run out of time for holiday baking right before Christmas. This Costco Yummy Doh Cookie Dough saves you the prep work while still letting you enjoy warm, fresh-out-of-the-oven cookies. Convenient products like this can sometimes sacrifice quality for ease, did that happen with this cookie dough?

Location in Store

I found this cookie dough located in the refrigerated deli section at Costco, near the Mid Day Squares and the Kirkland Signature Chocolate Mousse Desserts. The item number is 1991409.

Taste

There are three different kinds of dough in the box, and I baked and tried all three. Here’s what I thought of each:

Gingerbread – Very soft, though not necessarily chewy. Nice ginger flavor, but I could have used a touch more. I didn’t find them quite as flavorful as I would have liked, though that may be because I enjoyed the ginger flavor that was there so much.

Sugar cookie – Thin and chewy. They taste like a fairly typical sugar cookie (meaning they don’t have a ton of flavor), but they have just the right amount of sweetness and they’re very enjoyable.

Chocolate chip – Thin and chewy. I found the flavor slightly off, I think because they use oil instead of butter. There’s a hint of that almost fishy flavor vegetable oil can have at times. There also aren’t a ton of chocolate chips, so they’re not super chocolatey.

I really liked the gingerbread and sugar cookies, but the chocolate chip ones were just okay.

Cost

There are four 350-gram tubes of cookie dough in the $19.99 Canadian box. That’s quite a bit of cookie dough, but the ingredients seem lower quality, so it feels a bit expensive to me. You’re definitely paying for the convenience.

Convenience

The cookies have a best-before date that’s about five months from when I purchased them. The dough is extremely soft, so it’s hard to cut into perfect rounds. I just rolled the dough into cookie dough balls instead, and it turned out fine.

I baked the sugar cookies for about two minutes longer than the package directions because they were very underdone. The gingerbread cookies didn’t need any extra baking time. I think kids would love baking cookies like this as a fun holiday project, though I personally prefer to make cookies from scratch.

Ingredients

When I bake at home, I only use butter, so I’m not a fan of seeing margarine, soy, and palm oil listed. I also don’t love seeing artificial flavour. The cookies contain soy, eggs, and wheat, and may contain tree nuts.

Scoring

Taste: If I had to rate them individually, think I’d give the gingerbread cookies a 9, the sugar cookies and 8.5 and the chocolate chip cookies a 6.5 out of 10.

Overall

Walk on by!

I don’t think these are anything special, and I certainly wouldn’t jump at the chance to buy this dough again. Homemade dough is far tastier—and, in my opinion, a bit healthier too.
