Costco Partini Blueberry & Brie Cheese Bites Review

During a trip to Costco over the holiday season, I spotted these Partini Breaded Blueberry & Brie Cheese Bites and thought they looked both unique and, honestly, a little obscure. I decided to pick up a box to serve as an appetizer on New Year’s. Read on to find out whether I regretted the purchase!

Location in Store

These are located in the freezer aisle at Costco, near the TGI Fridays Loaded Potato Skins and the Cuisine Adventures Puff Pastry Bites. The item number is 1949116.

Taste

The first thing I noticed was that the breading got nice and crispy in the oven, and it’s definitely the best part. Still, I don’t think these are worth the calories.

The filling isn’t very good. It’s not very flavorful, and the blueberries and brie seem mashed together into a paste with a bland, slightly earthy taste. There also isn’t much filling, especially since many of the bites burst and leak during cooking. A lot of them came out as basically a hollow shell of fried breading.

Part of the problem may be that the blueberries aren’t tangy enough to complement the brie, but the brie also seemed to lack flavor. Maybe if there were more of both, the filling would have tasted richer and more balanced.

Cost

There are 30 blueberry & brie bites in the 600-gram box, which costs $17.99 Canadian at Costco. After trying them, I feel like they’re completely overpriced, and I wouldn’t pay that again.

Convenience

I followed the heating instructions on the back of the box and baked the blueberry & brie bites in the oven. The outside turned golden brown and crispy, but unfortunately the filling exploded out, which not only looks unappetizing but also leaves you with a hollow, breaded stick. I suspect they would explode in the air fryer too.

These need to be kept frozen, and the best before date is about 16 months from when I bought them. They come in a two pack with 15 bites in each pack. I can’t think of any sauces or dips I’d pair with these, so if you already bought them, I’d serve them on their own as an appetizer.

Nutrition

Calories

Four blueberry & brie bites contain 260 calories, 16 grams of fat, 25 grams of carbohydrates, 2 grams of fibre, 7 grams of sugar, 6 grams of protein, and 75 milligrams of sodium. As I said before, the flavor of the blueberry & brie bites doesn’t make them worth the calories.

Ingredients

I don’t love seeing modified palm oil, sugars, and soy protein isolate listed in the ingredients, but the list isn’t as bad as I expected. The blueberry & brie bites contain wheat, soy, and milk, and may contain mustard.

Overall

Walk on by!

These aren’t terrible but there’s not much to them, they’re lacking in flavor.
