Costco Belmont Meats Ghost Pepper Chicken Burgers Review

I always enjoy a good chicken burger, but I don’t usually gravitate toward spicy foods. However, I’ve heard that these Belmont Meats Ghost Pepper Chicken Burgers from Costco are quite delicious, so I picked up a box to try for myself. Is the hype around these chicken burgers real? Read on to find out!

Location in Store

These are located in the freezer section of Costco, near The Keg Prime Rib Beef Burgers and the Gourmet Grille Chicken Breast Burgers. The item number is 1221567.

Taste

These chicken burgers are definitely spicy, but they don’t have much other flavor. They’re not quite as hot as I expected, but they still pack a noticeable kick—especially if you’re not used to eating spicy foods.

The heat hits as soon as you take a bite and lingers in your mouth for a while afterward. Some ranch dressing would definitely help cool them down a bit. The chicken itself seems like decent quality; they’re made from ground chicken rather than a whole chicken breast. Overall, these remind me of a spicy version of Connie’s Chicken Burgers.

Cost

The 1.8-kilogram box contains 16 burgers, each weighing 113 grams, and costs $21.99 Canadian. That works out to just $1.38 per chicken burger, which is very inexpensive!

Convenience

The chicken burgers need to be kept frozen and cooked directly from frozen. The best-before date is about … from when I purchased them. The box includes both pan-frying and barbecue cooking instructions, and I chose to pan-fry my burger.

I recommend serving these spicy chicken burgers on a fresh bun with lettuce, tomato, and mayo or ranch. If you’re watching your carbohydrate intake, you can also enjoy them without a bun.

Nutrition

Calories

One 113 gram burger contains 150 calories, three and a half grams of fat, zero grams of carbohydrates, one gram of fibre, two grams of sugar, 23 grams of protein and 450 milligrams of sodium. I like that there’s a lot of protein for not that many calories and they’re low in carbohydrates and sugar!

Ingredients

I love how short and simple the ingredient list is! These chicken burgers are mainly made of chicken and spices. My one complaint is that they contain wheat crumbs. I think they could have easily left these out or used a different binder so that people who need gluten-free options could enjoy them as well.

Overall

Give it a try!

If you’re on the hunt for a spicy chicken burger, you’ll probably enjoy these! I found they are spicy but are lacking other seasoning so I would appreciate a bit more flavor other than heat!
