Costco Kirkland Signature Tom Yum Soup Kit Review

Last week, when I stopped at my local Costco, I spotted the brand new Kirkland Signature Tom Yum Soup Kit in the prepared meal section. I immediately grabbed it because I love Thai food, and the shrimp on top of the kit looked delicious. Find out everything you need to know about this new Costco meal kit, including whether I liked it or not, by reading the review below!

Location in Store

This is located in the refrigerated pre-made meal section at Costco near the Kirkland Signature Mediterranean Pasta Salad and the Kirkland Signature Greek Salad. The item number is 16692.

Taste

The soup is quite spicy, tangy and vinegary, with a good amount of heat. If you’re sensitive to spice, you probably won’t like it. It has big chunks of chicken, and the chicken is moist, tender and seems to be high quality. There were eight large shrimp with the soup I bought, and they were tasty, although a bit chewy.

The noodles turned out fine and were the perfect texture after following the cooking instructions. Everything goes together really well, but the broth is pretty overpowering. You mainly notice the vinegary, tangy, spicy taste of the broth. This isn’t my favorite Costco pre-made meal. I like it, but I don’t love it..

Cost

In the soup kit, you get broth, shrimp, chicken, noodles, cilantro and limes. The kit costs $12.99 per kilogram, and I paid $21.92 for the specific kit I picked up. That’s not cheap; you’re definitely paying for the convenience, but it’s not super overpriced either.

Convenience

I followed the cooking instructions on the label, and the soup turned out great. I was a bit unsure whether the noodles would cook enough in the broth, but they did! I also liked that I could portion out the amount of rice noodles I wanted in my bowl.

The soup needs to be kept refrigerated, and the best-before date is four days from when I purchased it. You could probably freeze the soup if you wanted to, but it may change the texture of the noodles and other ingredients. This works well as a full lunch or dinner!
