I grew up with a dad who loved to buy boxes of Vachon Jos Louis which I enjoyed as a kid and even now many, many years later I often find a box sitting on my parents kitchen counter. I’ve never tried or seen the Vachon Macchiato Flavor Ah Caramel before so when I saw them at Costco knowing full well they’d be loaded with preservatives and unhealthy ingredients I still picked up a box to try. Find out if I regretted my purchase by reading the review below!

Taste
The Vachon Ah Caramel has a firm outer shell that’s coated in solid chocolate, while the inside is noticeably softer. At first, the cake seems slightly dry, but it quickly melts in your mouth and becomes much softer as you eat it.
The coffee flavor is noticeable almost immediately, giving this snack a taste that is very reminiscent of a Coffee Crisp, only in cake form. The caramel adds plenty of sweetness, while the chocolate, coffee, and caramel flavors are surprisingly well balanced. There’s also a creamy filling in the middle that adds a pleasant chocolate flavor and helps give the cake a richer texture.
Overall, the Vachon Ah Caramel delivers a strong combination of chocolate, coffee, and caramel, although it is definitely on the sweet side and may be a little too sweet for some people. If you’re a fan of Coffee Crisp, the Vachon Ah Caramel is essentially a Coffee Crisp-inspired cake with a soft, creamy center and a sweet caramel twist.
Cost
The one kilogram box costs $9.99 Canadian and contains three smaller boxes that have 12 mini cakes in each box. That’s pretty cheap for 36 mini cakes but these definitely aren’t high quality, premium mini cakes.
Convenience
The best before date is only about a month from when I purchased the chocolate, caramel macchiato cakes which I found a bit surprising. There are two cakes in each package but I find one is enough to satisfy any sweets craving so if you’re like me you could share the two-pack or save one for later. These are a nice mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack with coffee or tea and work well as a dessert with a glass of milk as well!

Two Vachon Ah Caramel cakes contain 270 calories, 12 grams of fat, 40 grams of carbohydrates, 1 gram of fibre, 30 grams of sugar, 1 gram of protein, and 200 milligrams of sodium. With 30 grams of sugar and 40 grams of carbohydrates per two-cake serving, this is definitely a sweet treat. If you’re watching your carbohydrate or sugar intake, I’d recommend enjoying just one Vachon Ah Caramel cake rather than the full two-cake serving.

The ingredients list is just what I expected to see, lots of unhealthy ingredients you’d find in processed foods. Sugar, hydrogenated palm oil, hydrogenated vegetable oil, Carrageenan, artificial flavors and preservatives/additives. The cake contain wheat, soy and dairy and may contain peanuts and tree nuts.

These mini chocolate, caramel and coffee-flavoured cakes definitely aren’t the most nutritious treat, but they are convenient and tasty! They’re a great option when you’re craving something sweet and want an easy dessert or snack.
