I’ve been seeing the new Kirkland Signature Banana Toffee Cake at Costco for the past month or so and have been wanting to try it because I don’t remember seeing Costco carry a banana cake before. I finally picked one up last night, and I’m happy to say I didn’t regret my purchase! If you’re curious about this new Costco bakery item and wondering what the banana toffee cake tastes like, keep reading to find out what I thought and whether I’d buy it again.

Location in Store
This is located in the refrigerated bakery section of Costco, near the Kirkland Signature Tuxedo Cake and the Kirkland Signature Tiramisu Scoop Cake. The item number is 2057140.

Taste
If you love banana pudding, you’ll probably really enjoy this cake! It has a strong banana pudding flavor, with a noticeable banana flavor throughout the cake. The bottom has a graham cracker crust, although ours was a little soggy. That could be because we were eating it a day after purchasing it, but it was still very tasty.

The top is covered with a sweet toffee-style icing that has a nice caramel and toffee flavor. There are also little toffee crumbs around the outside that look crunchy but actually melt in your mouth. They add even more sweet toffee flavor without much crunch. The white icing tastes like whipped cream, and I believe there’s also whipped cream between the thin cake layers, although it’s difficult to tell exactly what’s between them because the layers are so thin.

Overall, I really enjoyed all of the individual components, My only complaint is that I think it could have done without the toffee topping and crumble. They make the cake quite sweet and the banana flavor overpowers the toffee.

Cost
The cake costs $26.99 Canadian at Costco, which isn’t exactly cheap, but it’s quite large and heavy. I think you could easily serve around 16 people a thin slice from one cake, so the price isn’t too bad if you’re serving it to a crowd.

Convenience
The best before date is about five days from the date it was packaged. You could probably cut the cake into slices and freeze it, although it may become slightly soggy once thawed. This is a great cake to serve for a birthday, special occasion, Thanksgiving or any other celebration!

Nutrition
Calories
I don’t have the exact nutrition information for this cake at the moment, but I’ll update this review with the nutritional facts as soon as they’re available. Given the cake’s ingredients and sweetness, I wouldn’t expect it to be a particularly light dessert when it comes to calories, fat, sugar or carbohydrates.
Ingredients
The ingredients list is quite long and contains several ingredients I’m not a big fan of, including sugar, dextrose, glucose solids, modified palm oil, palm oil, carrageenan and a number of other additives. This definitely isn’t a cake I’d consider to have a simple or clean ingredient list. The Costco Kirkland Signature Banana Toffee Cake contains milk, egg, soy and wheat, and may contain peanuts, tree nuts, sesame, triticale, barley, oats and rye.
