Costco Kirkland Signature New York Style Strawberry Cheesecake Review

Cheesecake is a classic dessert that comes in a variety of flavors and is loved by many. Costco sells this jumbo Kirkland Signature New York-Style Strawberry Cheesecake in their bakery department, and it looks absolutely delicious. I picked one up to serve at a birthday celebration and had high hopes that it would be a crowd-pleaser. Read on to find out if it lived up to expectations!

Location in Store

This is located in the refrigerated bakery section at Costco, near the Kirkland Signature Mango Passion Fruit Mousse Cake and the Kirkland Signature Chantilly Cake.

Taste

The cheesecake itself offers a nice balance of sweetness and tanginess, though it leans a bit more on the sweet side. The base is also fairly sweet but has a pleasant flavor. It tastes like a mix of graham crackers and vanilla cookie crumbs. After sitting in the fridge, it’s definitely moist, but I wouldn’t say it’s soggy.

The icing around the edge is very sweet, without much flavor beyond the strawberry taste it seems to have absorbed from the topping. It’s fine. The strawberry topping is quite good—sweet and syrupy, with a nice strawberry flavor. It tastes fairly natural, like a strawberry syrup made by reducing real strawberries.

There are a lot of big chunks of strawberries in it, which adds to the flavor. The chunks are very soft but still contain seeds. Overall, the cheesecake is very good. The cheesecake and topping complement each other well without either one overpowering the other.

The tanginess of the cheesecake pairs nicely with the sweet topping. I like the textures too—the has a nice amount of moisture and density, and the base didn’t get too soggy after a couple of days in the fridge.

Cost

Back in 2018, the cheesecake cost $10.34 per kilogram, and I paid $17.99 Canadian for it. Today, in 2025, it costs $14.21 per kilogram, and I paid $26.99 Canadian. The price has definitely skyrocketed, like many other products at Costco and other grocery stores. It is a big cheesecake, though—I feel like you could get 24 small slices out of one.

Convenience

The cheesecake needs to be kept refrigerated and has a best-before date that’s five days from the date of purchase. It’s great for a party, potluck, or any kind of event. It’s a large, dense cheesecake, so a little slice goes a long way!

It’s also a good option for those who don’t enjoy chocolate desserts. The cheesecake freezes really well—I recommend pre-slicing it before freezing.

Nutrition

Calories

One-sixteenth of the cake contains 390 calories, 24 grams of fat, 37 grams of carbohydrates, one gram of fibre, 25 grams of sugar, seven grams of protein, and 360 milligrams of sodium. I wasn’t expecting it to be low in calories, fat, carbs, or sugar, so this nutrition information doesn’t surprise me!

Ingredients

The ingredients list is extremely long and includes many unhealthy items like palm oil, margarine, vegetable oil, carrageenan, artificial flavours, various sugars, preservatives, and additives. The cheesecake contains milk, egg, wheat, and soy, and may also contain tree nuts, peanuts, sesame, triticale, barley, oats, rye, and sulfites.

Overall

Give it a try!

This cheesecake is decent, it’s not as good as bakery or restaurant cheesecake but it’s fine. I personally prefer to buy the Costco Kirkland Signature Tuxedo Cake over this.

  1. These were so good but sadly the ingredients have changed. Not only is the new version not as good, it also includes ingredients which I am allergic to (which I learned after reacting as the label wasn’t changed right away).

    • I totally agree. Price increase of almost 40%, less strawberries and different (but similar) ingredients. What a pity. We won’t buy again.
