Last time I was at Costco I noticed a new item in the freezer section. The Caesar’s Kitchen Lemon Chicken Piccata with Cauliflower Rice. I decided to pick it up to try as I love trying new convenient freezer meals from Costco!

Taste

Unfortunately both my husband did not enjoy this. The cauliflower rice was fine and tasted exactly like normal cauliflower rice but the rest of the meal was not tasty at all. The lemon chicken was very bland, not very flavorful at all and the chicken was chewy and a little rubbery. As I said the sauce wasn’t very flavorful and tastes like a bland creamy lemon sauce that isn’t all that buttery with a few (very few) capers mixed in! I struggled to get through this dinner and both my husband and I ended up having snacks after.

Cost

I paid $13.99 Canadian for the Lemon Chicken Piccata the net weight is 1.13 kg and the box comes with two trays of cauliflower rice and two trays of lemon chicken. In my opinion this is completely overpriced. Although the box says four servings this would definitely NOT feed four adults! It probably wouldn’t even feed two adults and two teenagers or kids.

Convenience

The box comes with two trays of cauliflower rice and two trays of lemon chicken. You can choose to microwave the trays or choose to warm the cauliflower rice and lemon chicken in a skillet. I decided to microwave the trays! The package states that you should keep the product frozen until you cook it. When I microwaved this I needed way more time in the microwave than the package stated! It was pretty convenient to heat up and serve so makes an easy dinner.

Nutrition

1/4 of the package is 230 calories, 10 grams of fat, 590 mg of sodium, 11 grams of carbohydrates, three grams of fibre, two grams of sugar and 21 grams of protein. The ingredients list is pretty straight forward and this is also certified gluten-free.

I would definitely not purchase this again. It just wasn’t tasty. It wasn’t flavorful and what flavor it did have I didn’t really like.

  1. I didn’t like it. I got mine from HEB (Texas) 2022 single bowl version. Seemed to be missing most of the capers and some chicken. Came out watery when I used the microwave, so, I put it in a skillet to reduce the water, and it was better.

Turns out I’m just not a fan of lemon and cauliflower—just bitter-tangy water. I added some garlic salt and I was okay with it Wouldn’t necessarily buy it again for the price–rather I could make it myself.

  2. Hi everyone, chicken piccata is my favourite food . I have had the best chicken piccata when I visited friends in Boston . We would go to a Italian restaurant with the best food ever . I even loved their sword fish . Anyhow , when I seen that Costco had frozen chicken picatta with cauliflower rice ; I feel like I died and went to heaven . Not just because it’s my favourite, but also because I eat low carb. I recently had made my own , but sometimes it’s nice to have the convenience. Besides my own ,or in Boston , I haven’t found any restaurant that makes a good chicken picatta. I do find Costco’s version a little over priced as others had stated that it serves 4 . Ya right . Now , I split one half with my 15 year old daughter and she was still hungry after . But , it was really good . Maybe, it’s because you did it in the microwave. I did mine on top of the stove and it was quite good . I have thrown away the box and I have half left to eat . Can anyone tell me the cooking instructions for in a skillet on top stove ? I can’t remember. It would be very much appreciated . Bottom line , it tasted good and I don’t like box food usually . I usually make everything homemade with flavour and flair. Nothing traditional

  3. I have to add something. It might just be me, but when the box says 4 servings and there are 4 trays in the box, I assumed each one was a meal. They all look the same to me, especially frozen. So today I grabbed one out of the freezer on my way to work. Then upon realizing I hadn’t looked up how long to microwave it for I got online and started looking and landed on your page. I had no idea I was supposed to bring 2 trays to work. I feel their box is deceptive. It looks like the amount of food in each tray is barely enough for one meal, certainly not 2!! So I guess I get to figure out something else for lunch today. But while looking up this info I did come across some awesome recipes for the Lemon Piccata Chicken, so I’m going to make it instead!!

    • Same thing happened to me! So misleading with the 4 servings and the 4 trays. I need it easy which is why I’m buying a frozen meal to begin with, now I wish the had different colored cartons on the bottom, so I could at least, at a glance, ask myself why they are different colors. Thank you for your review. I ditto, you.
