Burritos are a beloved go-to meal, known for wrapping bold flavors and hearty ingredients into one convenient tortilla. During a recent trip to Costco, the El Monterey Beef & Bean Burritos in the freezer aisle caught my eye, they looked filling and perfect for a quick bite.
Location in Store
These burritos are located in the freezer section at Costco, beside the El Monterey Quesadillas and the Motor City Pizza Co. Frozen Pizza. The item number is 1863870.
Taste
After baking the burritos, I discovered the tortilla became very hard and dry and has a bit of a cardboard texture and taste. I followed the instructions on how long to cook them so next time I think I might try microwaving them.
The inside combination of beans and beef is like a paste but has a decent nice flavor. The filling is a bit spicy and may be too hot for some people. I thought the beef tasted fine and didn’t find any gross bits in it. Overall, these aren’t bad. I find the shell overpowers the burrito a bit and they could be better with more filling.
Cost
The bag of 14 individually wrapped burritos costs $19.99 Canadian, which isn’t cheap but isn’t horribly overpriced. That’s about just about a dollar per burrito, you’ll pay much more than a dollar for a single burrito from a convenience or grocery store.
Convenience
You can bake the burritos in the oven or microwave them. If I were bringing these for lunch at work I’d definitely be microwaving them but since I was having the burrito at home I baked mine in the oven.
The burritos need to be kept frozen and the best before date is about 13 months from when I purchased them. I highly recommend serving the burritos with some guacamole, salsa and sour cream!
Nutrition
Calories
One beef & bean burrito contains 360 calories, 17 grams of fat, 41 grams of carbohydrates, four grams of fibre, zero grams of sugar, 11 grams of protein and 420 milligrams of sodium. Honestly, I thought there would be more sodium in one of the burritos so that’s a bit of a pleasant surprise but I’m disappointed by the lack of protein. The sodium is still high but not as high as I expected!
Ingredients
I didn’t expect these burritos to be full of healthy ingredients and they’re not. I don’t love that there’s textured soy protein and vegetable oil. The burritos contain soy and wheat but are dairy-free.

Overall
Give it a try!
These burritos aren’t the most amazing thing I’ve tried from the Costco freezer section but they’re not horrible either!

They used to sell their shredded beef and cheese with green sauce and those were the best frozen burritos period. What you got tha cost you so much is sold here in the States cost 5 dollars for 8 if them and in different flavors. Try wrapping them in foil when you cook them. Helps keep the tortilla softer and they do not explode as much. Their Beef and Nean Chimichanga is so much better and the tortilla is way better and does not get all hard like the burritos. I do not buy them anymore as in the last 2 years they are no 5 bucks and I can open a can of beans and make a better tasting quick burrito.. Seriously try the shredded beef burrito or chimichanga
I tried it once & it is cost effective & I need at least 2 for a meal. In that case, the burritos from the takeout is better. I only need half a burrito for one meal. They have real shredded beef with beans, avocado & other vegetables.
oooo it’s hard to find frozen burritos at the supermarket these days. I used to be able to get them in bags of 8. Now the only option seems to be Amy’s. That’s a great price for the 10, but I don’t like cracking exploding burritos while they cook. tends to fall apart even more while you’re eating! annoying
