Carrot cake is a favorite for many, loved for its sweet, spiced flavor, tangy cream cheese frosting, and the satisfying texture from add-ins like pineapple, raisins, and walnuts or pecans. In my opinion, nothing beats homemade carrot cake but when I spotted the Costco Kirkland Signature Carrot Cake, I couldn’t resist giving it a try. It looked absolutely delicious! This is located in the unrefrigerated bakery section at Costco, near the Kirkland Signature Muffins and the Kirkland Signature Croissants. The item number is 1971425.
Taste
This is a pretty good carrot cake! It’s very moist and fluffy, with plenty of raisins, walnuts, and pineapple baked in. The top is finished with carrot shavings and walnut pieces for extra texture.
The cake itself isn’t overly sweet, but the icing is very sweet and doesn’t taste quite like the cream cheese icing I’m used to. It’s sweeter than I prefer, but still tasty. There’s also a generous amount of icing—perfect if you like lots of it!
This carrot cake reminds me a lot of the Kirkland Signature Carrot Mini Cakes. I’m pretty sure it’s the exact same recipe, just baked in a pan instead of as mini cakes or muffins.
Cost
The cake measures 9×13 inches and costs $19.99 Canadian at Costco. That’s not exactly cheap, but it’s also not unreasonable. Personally, I think $15.99 would be a more fitting price point, but that’s just my opinion.
Convenience
The cake has a best-before date of four days from the purchase date. The packaging doesn’t suggest refrigerating it, but I chose to once it was opened to help maintain freshness.
We ended up freezing some of the cake since it was too much for our small family to finish quickly, and it tasted just as good after thawing. It makes a great dessert or a sweet snack with tea or coffee in the morning or afternoon.

A 1/24th slice of the cake contains 300 calories, 15 grams of fat, 41 grams of carbohydrates, one gram of fibre, 30 grams of sugar, four grams of protein, and 210 milligrams of sodium. That’s a lot of sugar, and I think most people will probably eat a serving larger than 1/24th of the cake.
Ingredients
I like that the ingredient list is short and simple, with items I’d use to make a carrot cake at home. I also love that the icing is made with real cream cheese and butter. The carrot cake contains milk, egg, walnut, soy, and wheat, and it may also contain other tree nuts, peanuts, and sesame.
