Costco Schwartz Brothers Bakery Pain Croissant Loaf Review

I came across this new Schwartz Brothers Bakery Croissant Loaf at my local Costco and decided to try it, since it’s something I’ve never seen or had before. It’s designed to capture the taste of a croissant in a loaf of sliced bread. After trying it, I found the flavor and texture to be quite unique. Read on to find out what I thought!

Location in Store

This is located in the bakery section on the racks with all the other loaves of bread like The Grain Escape Hamburger Buns and the Carbonaut Low Carb Keto Bread. The item number is 2007735.

Taste

This bread is definitely unique. It’s meant to capture the taste and texture of a croissant in sliced bread form. While it’s not exactly like a croissant, the resemblance is there. The first thing I thought when I took a bite was that it would make an amazing grilled cheese.

This bread doesn’t need any butter—the richness is already built in—so it tastes plenty buttery on its own. It would make a great sandwich or pair nicely with jam. The texture is chewy and dense.

It doesn’t taste like any other bread I’ve had before, and I’m glad I tried it. The flavor isn’t really sweet, just very buttery. I like it, but I don’t love it, as I find it a little too rich and heavy for my taste.

Cost

The two 425-gram loaves of croissant bread cost $13.99 CAD, which works out to about $7 per loaf, which isn’t cheap. That said, this isn’t your average loaf of bread.

Convenience

croissant loaf has a best-before date that’s 13 days from the date of purchase. You could definitely freeze the loaves if you’re not going to finish them before then, and frankly, I can’t imagine them not getting moldy within that time.

This bread works well for French toast, grilled cheese, sandwiches, or simply on its own with jam or Nutella. It’s tasty both toasted and straight out of the bag.

Nutrition

Calories

One slice contains 140 calories, 7 grams of fat, 17 grams of carbohydrates, 1 gram of fibre, 2 grams of sugar, 3 grams of protein, and 125 milligrams of sodium. The croissant loaf is definitely high in fat, but keep in mind you don’t need to add extra butter in my opinion, as it’s already quite buttery on its own.

Ingredients

This is definitely not a healthy loaf of bread. it’s all about the taste. I like that it contains real butter rather than oil, and the ingredients list is fairly short and simple. The croissant loaf contains wheat and milk, and may also contain egg, sesame, soy, and tree nuts.

Overall

Give it a try!

This croissant loaf has a really interesting taste and texture. I think it would make the best grilled cheese ever, but it’s a bit too heavy and rich for me to enjoy on a regular basis.
