Costco Soup’s On Roasted Red Pepper & Gouda Soup Review

Whenever it gets chilly outside, all I want to eat is soup. So when I saw this new Soup’s On Roasted Red Pepper & Gouda Soup at Costco, I decided to pick up a two-pack to try. I was hoping for a hearty, comforting, flavorful soup. Keep reading to find out if it delivered!

Location

I found this soup in the refrigerated deli section near the Kirkland Signature Tortilla Soup and Kirkland Signature Brocolli Cheddar Soup, the item number is 1970654.

Taste

This soup kind of reminds me of something. I notice a bit of a sweet barbecue sauce flavor. Overall, the soup has a nice balance of smoky and sweet flavors with a moderate amount of heat. If you’re sensitive to spice, you may not like it. I also don’t notice much Gouda flavor.

The texture is pretty chunky, with lots of red pepper pieces and some onions. It’s creamy, hearty, and filling. It’s a great soup for a cold winter day and really warms you up from the inside!

Cost

There are two 700-millilitre containers in the pack, which costs $13.99 Canadian. That’s about seven dollars per container, which isn’t cheap, but I’ve found soup is a lot less reasonably priced than it used to be.

Convenience

The soup needs to be kept refrigerated, and the best before date is about two months from when I purchased it. If you can’t use it by then, I’m sure you could freeze it. There are microwave and stovetop heating instructions on the packaging.

As I said before, this soup is nice and hearty—almost like a bisque—so you don’t need to serve it with much. It would be great with a grilled cheese sandwich, some crusty bread, or a side salad. My toddler tried the soup and didn’t enjoy it, but four adults did!

Nutrition

Calories

One cup of roasted red pepper & gouda soup contains 190 calories, 12 grams of fat, 16 grams of carbohydrates, one gram of fibre, 10 grams of sugar, three grams of protein, and 760 milligrams of sodium. This isn’t a low-calorie, low-fat soup, and there’s definitely no shortage of sodium!

Ingredients

I like that the ingredients list includes simple items like roasted red peppers, tomatoes, onions, cream, Gouda, and spices. The only ingredients I don’t really love seeing are canola oil and wheat flour. They could have easily left the wheat flour out and made this soup gluten-free.
