Steak is a staple in our house, we enjoy it often but we’d never tried steak bites until now! On a recent Costco trip, I grabbed the Stoney Creek Steak Bites with dipping sauce, hoping they’d make for a tasty new appetizer. The picture on the box looked mouthwatering, so I couldn’t wait to dig in and see if they tasted as good as they looked.
Location in Store
I found the steak bites in the refrigerated deli section at Costco near the 44th Street Pork Roast and the Lucia’s Carnitas. The item number is 1897989.
Taste
I’ll just cut to the chase, I don’t like the steak bites very much and wouldn’t buy them again. Once you cook them, they look nothing like the steak bites on the box, they don’t even really resemble steak. The texture is more like a brisket or pulled pork.
The texture of the steak bites is chewy and tough and they have a processed taste to them. We buy sirloin steak all the time and these don’t taste similar to a freshly barbecued sirloin steak at all. The steak bites don’t really taste that beefy, they taste a bit more like pork to me.
The steak bites have a salty, sweet marinade, some bites were very salty, I think from the soy sauce. The sauce they come with is a bit spicy and sweet. I personally really enjoyed the sauce but that wasn’t enough to make me love the steak bites.
Cost
There are two packs of sauce and two packs of steak bites in the 800 gram box and I paid $19.99 Canadian. I thought the packs of steak bites looked pretty small when I initially opened the box. Steak definitely isn’t cheap right now though.
I chose the stovetop method but I bet they might taste a bit better in the air fryer. I think they’d probably get a little crispier. You could use the steak bites in a salad, sandwich or even stir fry or just enjoy them on their own dipped into the sauce they come with.

Just got home from Costco and decided to try them right away. The picture on the box looks amazing. I cut open the package, smelled it and told my wife that I just opened a can of dog food. The pics on this review are accurate as to what you’ll get. My wife tried one and spit it out, not tender as advertised. I thought Costco did product testing before offering them to their members. Apparently not. Ours are going into a Ziplock and being returned. $19.99 for glorified dog food. Not sure I would even give to my neighbours dog which barks too much, that would be cruel.
This is the best review, I feel 100% also. Would never buy or recommend!!!!!!!!!!
Spot on review. I honestly thought I had gotten the wrong product when I opened them. Nothing like the photo!
First time commenting on one of your reviews but I’ve read quite a few! Thanks for helping us all to dodge this bullet. I was tempted to get these when they went on sale recently, but I always make sure to check for reviews first.
I agree wholeheartedly with the reviews. When first opening the package I thought this looks like dog food. There is absolutely nothing steak about these. Leftover roast beef maybe…. The picture on the box is false advertising. The sauce was the best thing about it. I liked it but my husband didn’t so we agree 3 out of 10am definitely run not walk on by.
Grab these when on sale to give your dog or cat as a *special* birthday treat, then stash the sauce in the fridge and use it as a dip for fries or whatever other deep-fried veggies you decide to munch on. These chunks are absolutely hideous and belong in the pet food aisle where they were clearly belong. I feel they are not meant for human consumption.
