Costco The Keg Lobster Bisque Review

A delicious lobster bisque should be velvety, rich and have a subtle sweetness from the lobster. There needs to be a delicate balance between the creamy texture, flavorful broth and lobster meat. I’ve never had lobster bisque at The Keg before but I was excited to try their version of the high end dish.

Location in Store

This lobster bisque is located in the refrigerated section of Costco, near all the fresh pasta. The item number is 1794110.

Taste

I’ve never had the lobster bisque at The Keg before so I can’t say if this tastes exactly like what you get in the restaurant. I can say I tried it and didn’t enjoy it much though.

It’s quite flavorless, there isn’t a strong seafood or lobster flavor like I expected, there just isn’t much flavor at all. The texture of the bisque is thick, heavy and very creamy and it almost tasted a bit like coconut milk to me.

There are very, very small flakes of what I think is lobster in the bisque but no real chunks. I didn’t care for this bisque at all and wouldn’t be able to eat a whole bowl of it. However, my parents both enjoyed it a lot. This is my blog though so I’m going to rate it based on my opinion!

Cost

The bisque comes in a two pick with two 560 milliliter bags of bisque and costs $14.99 Canadian. That’s enough bisque for two meals with potential for leftovers depending on how much bisque each person eats!

Convenience

The bisque can be heated on the stove top or in the microwave, I microwaved mine just for the sake of convenience and it turned out fine. The best before date on the bisque is about a month from when I purchased it and it needs to be kept refrigerated.

You could serve the lobster bisque with a garden salad, some french bread or to make a more substantial meal you could serve it as a side with lobster rolls!

Nutrition

Calories

One cup of bisque contains 390 calories, 32 grams of fat, 13 grams of carbohydrates, one gram of fibre, seven grams of sugar, nine grams of protein and 830 milligrams of sodium. That’s quite a bit of sodium considering it’s not the most flavorful bisque!

Ingredients

The ingredients list for the bisque is pretty long and doesn’t have the healthiest foods listed which is kind of expected. I wish they could do without the palm kernel oil, sugars, canola oil, vegetable oil and additives like disodium guanylate.

The bisque contains crustaceans, milk, soy, sulphites and wheat. It may contain fish, crab, prawns and molluscs.

Scoring

Taste: 4/10 but my parents gave it an 8/10 (I don’t agree with them though).

Cost: 7/10

Convenience: 9.5/10

Nutrition: 2/10

  1. I love lobster bisque (and the Keg) but seldom have it. So when I noticed it at my warehouse I was very tempted! However, the sodium content, ingredients and price held me back. Now you’ve confirmed my previous decision. Thanks!

  2. For all the fat and additives, you would think this soup might be delicious but it’s not. Not sure where the lobster was! Would not buy it again.
