RXBAR Protein Bars are one of my go-to purchases at Costco, so when I spotted the new RXBAR Energy Bars, I had to give them a try. How do they stack up against the protein bars I love so much? Read on to find out!
Location in Store
I found these new RXBAR energy bars in the snack section at Costco, near the front of the store. They were beside the RXBAR Protein Bars as well as the Kirkland Signature Protein Bars. The item number is 1917542.
Taste
The first thing I noticed is that there isn’t much flavor in the honey cinnamon peanut butter or the dark chocolate peanut butter. I could barely taste the peanut butter in the honey cinnamon variety. The honey cinnamon peanut butter has a somewhat artificial taste and tastes more like vanilla than honey.
The texture of both flavors is quite chewy. They’re less soft than the RXBAR Protein Bars and make for quite a jaw workout!
The chocolate peanut butter flavor tastes a lot better, in my opinion. It has a rich chocolate flavor with only a hint of peanut butter. Both kinds of bars are a bit dull in the flavor department, but they’re still enjoyable. Many people will appreciate that they aren’t too sweet.
Cost
The box comes with 14 bars, each weighing 44 grams, and costs $23.99 Canadian. That works out to about $1.71 per bar, which is a great deal considering grocery stores sell them individually for three to four dollars. The box contains seven dark chocolate peanut butter bars and seven honey cinnamon peanut butter bars.
Convenience
Each bar is individually wrapped, and there are two flavors in the box: chocolate peanut butter and honey cinnamon peanut butter. The best-before date is about six months from when I purchased them.
Both flavors in the box contain peanuts, so they’re not school-safe. They’re great to have as a snack at home, though, or to bring with you on the go when you need a boost of energy!
Nutrition
Calories
One Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter RXBAR contains 230 calories, nine grams of fat, 28 grams of carbohydrates, four grams of fibre, 11 grams of sugar, and 180 milligrams of sodium. One Honey Cinnamon Peanut Butter Bar contains 230 calories, eight grams of fat, 29 grams of carbohydrates, four grams of fibre, 12 grams of sugar, and 170 milligrams of sodium.
The bars aren’t particularly low in calories, fat, carbohydrates, or sugar, but the ingredients are whole and simple. The fat and calories likely come mainly from the peanuts.
Ingredients
The ingredients list is short and simple for both flavors. I don’t love that the first ingredient in the dark chocolate peanut butter flavor is sugar.
I also don’t love seeing vegetable oil and natural flavor in the bars. Both flavors are gluten-free. The bars contain peanuts and eggs and may contain other tree nuts, milk, and soy.

Give it a try!
I personally prefer the RXBAR Protein Bars so probably wouldn’t buy another box of these but it’s nice to mix things up!
