Costco Fresh Additions Steak Bites Review

Costco offers a few convenient, protein-packed meat options, like the Fresh Additions Fully Cooked Chicken Breast Bites. If chicken isn’t your thing, the same company now makes Fresh Additions Fully Cooked Steak Bites. Each pack is high in protein while staying relatively low in calories and fat, making them seem like a healthy snack or lunch option. Unfortunately, I won’t be buying these again, read on to find out why!

Location in Store

These are located in the refrigerated deli section at Costco, near the Fresh Additions Chicken Breast Bites and the Pinty’s Buffalo Chicken Flings. The item number is 5051555.

Taste

I was hoping these would be really tasty, but I’m actually very disappointed. They’re fatty, full of gristle, and tough to chew. They also taste extremely processed. I could overlook the processed flavor if they were at least edible—but they’re not.

In the entire pack I opened, I didn’t find a single steak bite that was enjoyable. The flavor itself isn’t terrible; they mostly just taste salty. I just wish they were more tender. Unfortunately, I probably won’t be finishing my pack.

Cost

Considering the quality of these steak bites, they’re definitely not cheap. Six packs cost $24.99, which feels like money I basically threw down the drain. Each pack weighs 91 grams.

Convenience

These are extremely convenient for a protein-packed snack or lunch. They need to be kept refrigerated and have a best-before date that’s about three weeks from when I purchased them. If you’re not going to use them by then, you could probably freeze them as well.

They can be tossed into a salad, used to make tacos, or added to a wrap. You could also throw them into a quick stir-fry.

Nutrition

Calories

One 91-gram pack contains 110 calories, three grams of fat, one gram of carbohydrates, zero grams of fibre and sugar, 20 grams of protein and 630 milligrams of sodium. The sodium is a little high but the rest of the nutrition facts would be amazing if they actually tasted good!

Ingredients

The ingredients list seems a bit long for what’s supposed to be just pieces of steak in a container. I don’t love that “flavour” is the fourth ingredient, and the steak bites also contain additives. On the positive side, they are gluten-free, soy-free, and dairy-free.

Overall

Walk on by!

If these tasted better, they’d be a convenient, protein-packed snack or lunch option. Unfortunately, I just don’t find them enjoyable, and I doubt I’ll finish my pack. Hopefully, others have a better experience with them than I did!
