Costco carries a few salads in their pre-made meal section, such as Greek salad, quinoa salad, and Caesar salad. This Kirkland Signature Chicken and Grain Chopped Salad is new at my Costco, though, and it looked unique and hearty, so I decided to grab it to try. Does this salad taste as good as it looks? Find out by reading below!

Location in Store
This is located in the pre-made deli section of Costco, near the Kirkland Signature Greek Salad and the Kirkland Signature Quinoa Salad. The item number is 16256.
Taste
This salad is delicious; all the flavors and ingredients complement each other nicely. It includes edamame, romaine lettuce, pickled red cabbage, hard-boiled eggs, sweet potatoes, mixed nuts, chicken, and an Asian-inspired salad dressing.

The chicken in the salad I bought was all white breast meat and didn’t have any gristle or unpleasant bits; it was nicely seasoned. The pickled cabbage adds a bit of tang, while the nuts add some crunch.

The sweet potatoes are very tasty and bring a touch of sweetness—I love sweet potatoes. The hard-boiled eggs are cooked perfectly, and the edamame adds a unique flavor. My biggest complaint is that the barley and quinoa stuck together in clumps, making them hard to break apart.
The dressing is slightly sweet with a bit of heat. The most pronounced flavors are soy sauce and rice vinegar.
Cost
The salad costs $14.99 per kilogram, and my particular salad weighed 0.960 kilograms, so I paid $14.39 CAD. This might seem expensive to some people, but I actually think it’s quite reasonable and wouldn’t hesitate to pay that again for it!

Convenience
The salad has a best-before date that’s three days from when it was purchased and needs to be kept refrigerated. In my opinion, this salad is more like a main meal than a side salad, but you could definitely serve it as a side if you wanted.

It’s loaded with protein and is quite filling, which is why I feel like it works well as a main dish. It’s the perfect lunch or dinner when you’re short on time or energy!
Nutrition
Calories
One-fifth of the tray contains 310 calories, 17 grams of fat, 23 grams of carbohydrates, five grams of fibre, seven grams of sugar, 15 grams of protein, and 570 milligrams of sodium. I could probably eat half of this salad in one sitting as a meal, which would be about 775 calories and over 42 grams of fat.
Ingredients
I think this salad is loaded with nutritious ingredients and provides plenty of protein, as well as healthy fats and carbohydrates. My only complaint is that the dressing contains canola oil and sugar, but most salad dressings do.
The salad contains barley, soy, cashew, almond, peanuts, pecan, Brazil nut, macadamia nut, oyster, wheat, and egg. It may contain other tree nuts, sesame, milk, fish, other molluscs, crustaceans, and mustard.
