Costco RX Bar Energy Bites Review

Although I review a ton of different products from Costco, there are only a handful of staple items that I buy again and again. One product you can always find in my pantry is RXBAR Protein Bars, I’ve been purchasing them for years. I’ve also tried RXBAR Energy Bars in the past, but I wasn’t a huge fan. When I spotted these new RX Energy Bites at my local Costco, I was curious to see how they compared. Find out whether they’ll become a new pantry staple by reading the review below!

Location in Store

These are located in the front snack section of Costco, near the Galerie Au Chocolat Berrylicious Bites and the Unreal Dark Chocolate Peanut Nougat Bars. The item number is Clump of peanut butter in the middle 2007019.

Taste

I can’t say I love these or that I’ll be buying them again. The strawberry flavor is only on the outside and the outside is sweet. There’s a decent sized clump with of peanut butter in the center.

The strawberry coating tastes quite artificial, which I don’t love, and the peanut butter filling is surprisingly bland. They’re also a bit dry and just aren’t that enjoyable to eat. I definitely prefer RX Bars over these. My husband tried them and didn’t mind them, but my toddler wasn’t a fan.

Cost

The box costs $27.99 Canadian and contains 14 50-gram packs, with each pack holding two energy bites. These aren’t a cheap snack; you’re paying for the clean, simple ingredient list, as well as the fact that RX products are gluten- and dairy-free.

Convenience

Each individual pack contains two energy bites, and the best-before date is about six months from the date of purchase. These make a great on-the-go snack. Because they’re individually packaged, you can easily toss a pack into your lunch bag, purse, or glove compartment. However, they’re not school-safe since they contain peanuts.

Nutrition

Calories

Two energy bites, or one pouch, contain 210 calories, 10 grams of fat, 25 grams of carbohydrates, five grams of fibre, 16 grams of sugar, eight grams of protein, and 90 milligrams of sodium. They’re not low in calories, carbohydrates, or sugar, and they contain a fairly significant amount of fat. I suppose that’s why they’re called “energy bites.” On the positive side, I like that they provide a good amount of fibre.

Ingredients

The ingredients list is simple, short, and made up of recognizable ingredients. I don’t see any artificial flavors listed, although it does contain natural flavoring, which is somewhat ambiguous. The RX Energy Bites contain peanuts and eggs, but they’re free from dairy, soy, and gluten.
