Costco Unreal Dark Chocolate Peanut Nougat Bars Review

If you’re looking for a slightly healthier alternative to a Snickers bar, you may want to check out the Unreal Dark Chocolate Peanut Nougat Bars at Costco. They have all the indulgence of a candy bar, but with less sugar and without sugar alcohols plus they’re gluten-free and organic. Read on to find out whether I loved them in the review below!

Location in Store

These are located in the snack section at Costco, near the front of the store. Beside the Kirkland Signature Peanut Butter Pretzels and the Kirkland Signature S’mores Clusters. The item number is 1748380.

Taste

They remind me of a Snickers bar, which is definitely a good thing! The peanut flavor is bold and satisfying, though it does slightly overpower the caramel and chocolate. That said, I wouldn’t mind if a bit more of those chocolatey and caramel flavors came through.

They’re not overly sweet, with most of the sweetness coming from the caramel, which I really like. The texture is nice and chewy, not hard at all, and the bars taste very fresh. Overall, I’m a big fan and really enjoy them!

Cost

The 437-gram bag of bars costs $19.99 CAD at Costco, which isn’t cheap, but you do get quite a few bars in the bag. I think the price is also tied to the fact that the bars are organic, contain less sugar, and are gluten-free.

Convenience

Each bar is individually packaged, making it easy to toss one into your lunch bag, purse, office desk, or car. The best before date is roughly ten months from when I purchased them, and they’re made in Canada!

Nutrition

Calories

Two bars contain 180 calories, nine grams of fat, 22 grams of carbohydrates, two grams of fibre, 12 grams of sugar, four grams of protein, and 70 milligrams of sodium. That means one bar has 90 calories, four and a half grams of fat, 11 grams of carbohydrates, six grams of sugar, and two grams of protein.

Ingredients

The bars are certified gluten-free, organic, non-GMO, made with fair trade ingredients, low in sugar, and free from sugar alcohols. They sound pretty healthy, right? Well… not exactly. While they’re a better-for-you candy bar, they’re still not the healthiest or most nutritious option out there and do contain ingredients like cane sugar and palm oil.

The bars contain milk and peanuts and may also contain soy, sesame, eggs, and tree nuts.
