Costco Kirkland Signature Whole Coffee Bean House Blend Review

Costco carries plenty of whole bean coffee options, and it can be hard to know which one to choose! The Kirkland Signature brand is usually associated with high-quality products, and as a coffee lover, I decided to try the Kirkland Signature Whole Bean Coffee Bean House Blend. I was hoping for a robust, bold, and smooth cup, did this coffee deliver?

Location in Store

This is located in the dry tea/coffee aisle where you can be coffee beans and tea like the Ethical Bean Coffee Beans and the Salt Spring Coffee. The item number is 1762089.

Taste

Although the bag says this is a medium roast coffee, it tastes more like a dark roast. The beans are very shiny and oily looking, which is usually indicative of dark roast beans.

The flavor is pleasant if you enjoy dark roasts, and this coffee has a typical dark roast profile without any harsh elements. It’s smooth and easy to drink. I didn’t notice any strong acidity or bitterness. There’s nothing bad about these beans—they’re fine, just not my favorite.

Cost

“The 1.13-kilogram bag costs $29.99 CAD, which isn’t the cheapest coffee you can buy, but it’s still reasonable. It’s far cheaper than buying coffee every day from a coffee shop. Something you may find surprising is that the same bag of coffee cost $13.99 CAD in 2018

Convenience

These are whole coffee beans, so you’ll need a way to grind them before you can brew coffee. Making coffee from whole beans is significantly easier with a good grinder and coffee maker. The best-before date on the package is about 11 months from the date of purchase.

The bag includes brewing suggestions, which is helpful if you’re new to making coffee from whole beans. The coffee can be used to make either hot or iced drinks. The packaging also recommends storing the beans in a cool, dry place.

Nutrition

Calories

Black coffee has zero calories, zero grams of fat, carbohydrates, fiber, sugar, and protein, and contains just two milligrams of sodium. If you add creamer, milk, or sugar to your coffee, then obviously your cup will contain more sugar, calories, fat, and other nutrients

Ingredients

This coffee is made with whole bean Arabica coffee, roasted in the USA. The bag does not indicate that it is fair trade or organic. Arabica coffee is known for being smooth, flavorful, and not overly bitter.

Scoring

Taste: 7/10

Cost: 7/10 Coffee prices have skyrocketed over the last few years, this is still a reasonable price for a large amount of coffee beans.

Convenience: 1/10 You have to grind the beans and make the coffee.

Nutrition: Not applicable.

Overall

Give it a try!

This isn’t my favorite coffee, but I’m a bit picky since we usually buy our beans from a local coffee shop that roasts its own.

  1. 6/18/23 Something has happened the taste has changed in both the decaf and regular blend. Both coffees are now bitter leaving a terrible aftertaste in your mouth.
