Costco Allen Family Foods White Chicken Chili Review

Finding convenient, ready-made meals that are both healthy and high in protein can be tough. That’s why this White Chicken Chili from Allen Family Foods at Costco caught my eye. It’s packed with protein, made from simple, wholesome ingredients, and is both gluten- and dairy-free. I picked up a box to give it a try, and I’m sharing my thoughts below!

Location in Store

This white chicken chili is located in the aisle with the other soups such as the Sprague Organic Lentil Soup and the Johnny’s Potato Cheddar Soup Mix. The item number is 1923497.

Taste

It took me more than a few bites to decide how I truly felt about this chicken chili, but I’ve decided I like it. I don’t love it but I like it enough to finish my box up. The chili is a bit spicy; there’s a hint of heat but I’m pretty sensitive to spicy foods and didn’t find it too spicy.

There are a ton of white beans so the chili almost reminds me of a bean soup. There isn’t much chicken, there’s mostly small pieces and my container had only one large chunk. There are way more beans than chicken. The chunk of chicken I had though was tasty and wasn’t fatty or gross.

The broth is like a thick chicken broth that’s pretty salty. The chili is definitely a hearty, filling, comforting meal!

Cost

The box comes with six 405-gram containers of chicken chili and costs $17.99 Canadian. That’s three dollars per container which some may think is pretty expensive. However, one of these chilis is far less expensive compared to buying lunch. Cans of soup can cost three dollars or more as well so I wouldn’t say these are overpriced.

Convenience

The chili can be microwaved or cooked on the stovetop. I microwaved mine out of the plastic container in a glass bowl because I don’t like the idea of heating my foods in plastic, despite the container being BPA free. It turned out fine microwaving it! Everything’s already cooked so you’re essentially just heating it up.

The best before listed on the box is…. from when I purchased it. The chili is awesome for lunch or dinner and is really hearty and filling! I recommend serving it with a side salad or some crusty bread!

Ingredients

I like that there’s simple, whole ingredients in the chili. The only ingredient I don’t love is the sugar but there’s really not much. I appreciate that there isn’t any added “natural flavors” or preservatives/chemicals. The chili is gluten-free as well as dairy-free.
