Today I’m reviewing the Black’s Family Sweet Potato Tortilla Chips! My husband and I have tried pretty much all of the tortilla chips Costco offers so I thought we’d try these too!

Taste

So if you love sweet potatoes on their own or sweet potato fries you’ll probably really love these sweet potato tortilla chips. If you’ve ever tried the RW Garcia Sweet Potato Crackers that I reviewed, these taste very similar. Although they’re a salty tortilla chip they most definitely have a sweetness to them that in my opinion can only be enjoyed if you’re a fan of sweet potatoes. I also found the sweetness made the chips a little less versatile and I had to experiment with which dips and salsas would go well with the chips. These are a medium thickness, crunchy, salty tortilla chip with a hint of sweetness/sweet potato flavor.

Cost

I paid $5.99 Canadian for the 510 gram bag. This aligns with the average price for chips at Costco so not too expensive, not the cheapest chips either!

Convenience

These are a unique snack for COVID-19 quarantine or a summer BBQ. They’re flavorful enough that you can enjoy them on their own. The bag doesn’t reseal which is always a bummed and the best before date is about four months from the date I purchased the chips.

Nutrition

Sweet potato tortilla chips sounds slightly healthier right? At least it does to me but if you’re buying these in hopes you’re buying a far healthier tortilla chip, think again. 13 chips is 200 calories, 10 grams of fat, three grams of fibre, four grams of sugar, one gram of protein and 160 mg of sodium. They Black’s Family Sweet Potato Tortilla Chips are gluten-free and kosher. if you buy these hoping they’re a way healthy version of regular tortilla chips, they’re not and they’re also not that healthy for you. 13 chips is 200 calories, 10 grams of fat, three grams of fibre, four grams of sugar, one gram of protein and 160 mg of sodium. I liked these but not enough to purchase them a second time. I’ll finish my bag but my all-time favorite chips from Costco are probably the Costco Kirkland Signature Kettle Brand Himalayan Sea Salt Krinkle Cut chips.

  1. When will they be back in the warehouses? I live in the Windsor, Ontario area and we haven’t seen them since mid December. Why are Lays greasy, overpriced chips always there and these aren’t?
    Thank you.
