These sorbet-flavored Kimberly’s Bakeshoppe Cupcakes from Costco seem like the perfect treat for any end-of-the-year school celebration, summer barbecue, or birthday party. With their vibrant colors and refreshing flavors, I expected them to be delightfully moist with the perfect amount of delicious icing. Unfortunately, they didn’t live up to my expectations, read on to find out why.

These are located in the non-refrigerated bakery section at Costco, near the Kirkland Signature Croissants and the Kirkland Signature Palm Leaves. The item number is 1932180.
Taste
I tried all three and took notes on each flavor. All of the cakes are the same, it’s the icing that’s different. The cake itself is a moist, light, slightly crumble vanilla cake. There’s not a ton of flavor in the cake.
The raspberry flavor is super sweet and artificial tasting. It tastes more like an artificial blue raspberry flavor. The little crystals of sugar give it some crunch, which I like.
The orange cupcake is very sweet and artificial tasting as well. It has a weird orange flavor. It’s orange but you have to think about it for a second to really tell if it tastes like orange.
I like the lime the the best, it’s got quite a bit of tartness to it but it still tastes artificial and pretty sweet. The cake is the best part about the cupcakes.
Cost
There are 24 cupcakes in the plastic tray for $14.99 Canadian. That’s less than a dollar per cupcake which is quite reasonable but they’re definitely not a high quality cupcake.
Convenience
The best before date for the cupcakes is ten days from when I purchased them. They come in a plastic resealable container that could easily be popped into the freezer if you’re not going to eat them by the expiry date.
I think these are perfect for a kids birthday or to bring to school or daycare to celebrate. They’re nut-free so that means they’re school safe. Kids will definitely appreciate the bright colored icing and sweetness that these cupcakes offer!
