Costco Kirkland Signature Cranberry Walnut Loaf Review

Costco is always coming out with new bakery items, and I’ve been trying several of its newer fresh-baked breads, including the Kirkland Signature Artisan Pita Bread, Kirkland Signature Sourdough Bread and Kirkland Signature Brioche Garlic Bread. During my latest Costco Canada shopping trip, I spotted the new Kirkland Signature Cranberry Walnut Bread and knew I had to give it a try after seeing it in Hawaii a few months ago! Is this new Costco bakery bread worth picking up? Find out how it tastes, how much it costs and whether I’d buy it again in my full Costco Cranberry Walnut Bread review below

Location in Store

This is located in the bakery section of Costco near the Kirkland Signature European Style Crusty Rolls and the Kirkland Signature Muffins. The item number is 1973728.

Taste

The Kirkland Signature Cranberry Walnut Bread from Costco has a fairly crisp, crunchy crust with a very soft and moist centre. I was surprised by how sweet this bread tastes! It almost reminds me of a hot cross bun, with plenty of sweetness and texture from the cranberries. The bread is moist, flavourful and enjoyable even without butter, although I think adding some butter makes it even better.

I also think it would make excellent toast! You could serve this Costco Cranberry Walnut Bread alongside dinner, although it is on the sweeter side, or enjoy a slice on its own as a snack. If you enjoy slightly sweet bread with the fruity flavor of cranberry and a satisfying crunchy crust, this is definitely worth trying!

Cost

The Kirkland Signature Cranberry Walnut Bread from Costco is a large, hefty loaf that costs $9.99 Canadian. Considering how heavy the loaf is and how many slices you can get out of it, I think the price is quite reasonable!

Convenience

The best-before date is just two days from the day the bread was packaged, so I sliced my loaf right away and froze the slices I wasn’t planning to use. There are lots of ways to enjoy this Costco Cranberry Walnut Bread! You could use it to make a delicious turkey and cranberry sandwich, toast a slice for breakfast and spread it with butter, or serve it alongside Christmas or Thanksgiving dinner. Its slightly sweet cranberry flavor makes it a great option for holiday meals!

Nutrition

Calories

A 1/13th portion (75 grams) contains 230 calories, eight grams of fat, 37 grams of carbohydrates, three grams of fibre, 12 grams of sugar, six grams of protein and 190 milligrams of sodium. I like that this bread provides a decent amount of protein for bread, along with a good amount of fibre. The 12 grams of sugar is something to keep in mind, though, especially if you’re watching your sugar intake.

Ingredients

The ingredients list for the Kirkland Signature Cranberry Walnut Bread is fairly simple and contains mostly recognizable ingredients. However, I’m not a fan of seeing corn syrup and glucose-fructose in bread. The Kirkland Signature Cranberry Walnut Loaf contains wheat, barley and walnuts, and may contain milk, egg, other tree nuts, peanuts, soy and sesame.

Both my husband and I enjoyed this Kirkland Signature Cranberry Walnut Bread, and I shared some with my parents, who really liked it too! It’s perfect for a chilly fall morning, toasted and slathered with butter alongside a hot cup of tea or coffee. It’s a tasty, slightly sweet bread that’s easy to enjoy any time of day!

Yes! When I bought my loaf it was still warm.

Are the cranberries in the loaf very tart?

No they mostly taste sweet and a bit chewy.

How many slices could you get out of one loaf?

It depends how you slice it but I think at least 16-20.
