Costco Kirkland Signature Mini Brioche Filled with Pastry Cream Review

On a recent trip to Costco, I spotted these Kirkland Signature Mini Brioche with Pastry Cream in the refrigerated bakery section and was immediately intrigued. I don’t remember seeing anything like them at Costco before, so I had to pick up a package to try. They’re brightly colored, coated in sugar, and almost look like little macarons. Read on to find out what they taste like and whether I recommend them!

Location in Store

These are located in the refrigerated bakery section, near the Kirkland Signature Tuxedo Cake and the Kirkland Signature Chocolate Yule Log. The item number is 1978316.

Taste

The brioches kind of remind me of a cross between a macaron and a donut. They look kind of like a macaron, but they’re soft like a donut. They have two soft bread-like halves with a fairly thick layer of light cream filling in the middle. They’re definitely unique.

The crystals on top are sugar. They don’t taste like anything; they’re just sweet. The three flavors are hazelnut, mango and passionfruit and pistachio.

The hazelnut brioche has a nice chocolate hazelnut flavor. The brioche part is sweet with a fairly mild chocolate flavor while the cream filling is kind of like a lighter version of Nutella.

The mango and passionfruit brioche are probably my favorite. Again, the brioche part has a mild, sweet flavor, but the cream filling has an awesome passionfruit flavor with a hint of mango. I love passionfruit desserts and this filing is awesome.

The pistachio brioche was my least favorite, but that might just be because I’m not the biggest fan of pistachio. Again, the brioche is sweet but fairly mild in flavor and the cream filling is the star. That’s totally fine, because it’s really good like all the other cream fillings. It has a nice pistachio flavor.

These brioches are really cool. I kind of wish they weren’t coated in sugar crystals because I think they’d look more appetizing if they weren’t. They remind me of jumbo macarons or mini dessert hamburgers. They’re also very tasty. I would definitely recommend trying them if you like desserts!

Cost

The 465-gram container holds 15 mini brioches and costs $15.99 Canadian, which is a little on the expensive side for a grocery store bakery item. That’s over a dollar per mini brioche.

Convenience

The mini brioche need to be kept refrigerated, and the best-before date is three days from when I purchased them. I noticed that the closer they get to the best-before date, the soggier they become, so I’d try to eat them as soon as possible.

I don’t recommend freezing these, as I feel like the texture would change in a bad way. They work well as a dessert or a sweet snack!

I found the mini brioche unique and enjoyable. I also shared some with my parents, who thought they were quite tasty as well.
