Costco Kirkland Signature Mini Mousse Cake Variety Pack Review

These new Kirkland Signature Mini Mousse Cakes caught my eye during my last trip to Costco because of how colorful and delicious they looked! There are three flavors in the pack: White Chocolate Strawberry, Hazelnut and Tropical. The Tropical Mini Mousse Cake immediately reminded me of the Kirkland Signature Mango Mousse Cake that I previously reviewed and loved. I tried all three flavors and am sharing my thoughts on them in the review below!

Location in Store

The mousse cakes are located in the refrigerated dessert section of Costco, near the Kirkland Signature Tiramisu Scoop Cake and the Kirkland Signature Tuxedo Cake. The item number is 2044693.

Taste

I took notes on all three flavors of mousse cake and these are my thoughts on them.

White Chocolate Strawberry

The most noticeable flavor is the strawberry, and it’s very good. It’s flavorful, but not artificial or overly sweet. I couldn’t really taste white chocolate. It reminded me more of strawberry shortcake.

The top layer of icing is very sweet with a bit of strawberry flavor. The layer of mousse underneath has a fairly mild white chocolate flavor. The cake layers are quite plain. In between them, there’s a layer of a jam-like mixture that adds more strawberry.

Tropical

This cake uses a mixture of pineapple, mango and passionfruit and it’s really delicious. I noticed the passionfruit first, but the other two flavors are still very noticeable. They all taste quite natural and the sweetness level is good.

The top layer of icing is a sweet passionfruit glaze. The layer of mousse underneath has a great mango flavor. The cake layers are quite plain, but the jam-like mixture between them is where the pineapple comes from.

Hazelnut

This cake is rich and delicious! It’s a bit more chocolatey than hazelnutty, but both flavors are there. It doesn’t have icing on top; just the chocolate hazelnut mousse underneath, which is quite chocolatey. The cake layers have a nice chocolate flavor. It seems like more of the same chocolate hazelnut mousse.

All three of the cakes are moist yet light.

Cost

There are six mini mousse cakes in the package, with two of each flavor, and the pack costs $17.99 Canadian. At about $3.00 per mini mousse cake, the price seems reasonable to me. Each mini mousse cake is large enough for two to three people to share.

Convenience

The mousse cakes need to be kept refrigerated, and the best-before date is five days from the packaging date. These make a nice light summer dessert and are the perfect sweet treat after a barbecue. Each mousse cake comes in a small wrapper to help it hold its shape, but the wrapper is easy to remove.

Ingredients

The ingredients list is fairly long, but I like that it includes real freeze-dried strawberries, strawberries, hazelnuts, mango passionfruit purée, and mango pulp in the cakes. What I don’t love are ingredients like canola oil, palm oil, and palm kernel oil. The mousse cakes contain milk, egg, hazelnut, soy, and wheat, and may also contain other tree nuts, peanuts, and sesame.
