I grew up loving canned mushroom soup, but to be honest, I haven’t had mushroom soup in many years. When I spotted the new Kirkland Signature Mushroom Soup at Costco, I was intrigued but thought it seemed pretty expensive for soup. I still decided to pick up a container to see if it could live up to the price. Is this new Costco mushroom soup worth the money? Find out what I thought in the full review below!

Location in Store
This is located in the refrigerated pre-made meal section of Costco near the Kirkland Signature Celery Grain Salad and the Kirkland Signature French Onion Meatball Bake. The item number is 13212.

Taste
The Kirkland Signature Mushroom Soup has a fairly mild flavour with a creamy, salty and slightly sweet taste and a nice earthy mushroom flavour. It definitely tastes like a classic creamy mushroom soup, but there’s a lot of texture from all the mushrooms and other ingredients throughout. The croutons are somewhat crunchy when you first eat the soup, but they soften as they sit in the broth.

Personally, I don’t think I love the croutons and would probably prefer this Costco mushroom soup without them or with crackers. The flavour is perfectly fine and I think a lot of people will enjoy it, but the texture of the mushrooms may not appeal to everyone.

Cost
The Kirkland Signature Mushroom Soup costs $12.99 per kilogram at Costco, and my particular container weighed 1.740 kilograms, so I paid $22.60. In my opinion, that’s pretty expensive for a soup that doesn’t contain any meat. The container comes with a large bag of mushroom soup, a separate package of croutons and a small plastic bowl filled with fresh mushrooms.

Convenience
The Kirkland Signature Mushroom Soup needs to be kept refrigerated and has a best before date that’s only four days from the date it was packaged. It’s very easy to prepare and takes just a few minutes. Simply heat the bag of soup in a saucepan, pour it into bowls and add the fresh mushrooms and croutons that come with the soup.

I recommend serving the Kirkland Signature Mushroom Soup with a sandwich or some fresh sourdough bread and a side garden salad for a simple and satisfying meal. I even tried to convince my four-year-old to give the soup a try, but she insists she doesn’t like mushrooms—even though she’s never actually tried them!

Nutrition
Calories
I don’t have the exact nutrition facts for the Kirkland Signature Mushroom Soup yet, but I’ll update this review as soon as I obtain them. Based on the flavour and creamy texture, I suspect the soup may be fairly high in sodium and possibly fat and calories, but I’ll update this section with the actual nutrition information once I have it.

Ingredients
The ingredients list has a few ingredients I don’t love to see, including additives, artificial flavour, sugars and palm oil. The Kirkland Signature Mushroom Soup contains wheat, rye, soy and milk and may contain egg, fish, molluscs, crustaceans, tree nuts, peanuts, sesame and mustard.

Walk on by!
It’s not bad, but for the price, I don’t think the Kirkland Signature Mushroom Soup is something I’d buy again.
No it contains wheat.
$12.99 per kilogram. I paid over $22 dollars for my soup.
I’m sure you could but it would likely change the texture of the fresh mushrooms that come with the soup.
