Costco Mush Protein Bars Review

I enjoy trying the different protein bars that Costco offers, and I usually find them in the snack section. So when I spotted Mush Minis Protein Bars in the refrigerated section, I was surprised. I wondered what set them apart from other protein bars that don’t require refrigeration. I picked up a box to try—read on to find out what I thought!

Location in Store

These are located in the refrigerated section of Costco, near the Mid-Day Squares and the Dessert Factory Brookies. The item number is 1995186.

Taste

I like these protein bars! They’re quite different from most of the protein bars I’ve tried, they’re softer and taste less artificial. There are two flavors in the box: double chocolate and peanut butter chocolate chip.

The double chocolate bars are soft and taste a bit like a chocolatey oatmeal cookie. You can definitely taste the oats. They’re fairly chewy, quite tasty, and not too sweet.

The peanut butter chocolate chip flavor tastes like a peanut butter oatmeal cookie and is quite delicious. It’s soft and chewy, with no real chocolate flavor beyond the chips. Even when you get a bite with chocolate chips, it’s not very chocolatey. more peanut buttery.

As protein bars, they’re excellent, though they aren’t especially high in protein. As a treat, they’re very enjoyable. To me, they taste like eating a healthier cookie.

Cost

The box comes with 20 bars, 10 of each flavor, and costs $22.99 Canadian. It’s not particularly cheap, but it’s not overly expensive either, especially considering they’re marketed as protein bars.

Convenience

I think kids will absolutely love these bars, and as an adult, I enjoy them too. They need to be kept refrigerated, and the best-before date is about three months from when I purchased them at Costco. These Mush Minis aren’t school-safe because they contain nuts, but they’re great for a snack at home or on the go.

Ingredients

The ingredient lists for both flavors are quite similar. Both contain protein isolate and use honey as the sweetener. I appreciate that the ingredient list is short and straightforward, and I recognize everything in it. The bars contain oats, almonds, milk, and peanuts, and may also contain eggs, fish, other tree nuts, soy, sesame, and wheat.
