Costco Quest Tortilla Style Protein Chips Review

Everyone seems focused on getting enough protein in their diet, but for serious snackers it can be tough to find something like chips that still pack a protein punch. These Quest Tortilla Style Chips from Costco have 18 to 20 grams of protein per bag! I thought they might be a great crispy, salty snack option while still delivering enough protein to keep me feeling full, so I bought a box. Read the review below to see what I thought.

Location in Store

These are located on the side of the store near the other chips like the Cedar Valley Pita Chips and the Kirkland Signature Krinkle Cut Potato Chips. The item number is 2688395.

Taste

There are two flavors of tortilla chips in the box, nacho cheese and chili lime. I tried both flavors and took notes on both.

Chili Lime

The texture of the chili lime chips is thin and crispy. They’re quite sweet with a moderate amount of heat—if you don’t like spicy foods, you won’t like these. The main flavors I notice are the sweetness and the heat, with only a mild lime flavor. They’re not bad, but they’re too sweet and spicy without much else going on.

Nacho Cheese

The nacho cheese flavor is a bit better than the chili lime, in my opinion. The texture of the chips is a bit thicker, which I like. They taste very artificial and have an artificial cheese flavor similar to Doritos, but not as good. They’re okay—not great—and they definitely don’t taste identical to regular chips.

Cost

These are very expensive. The 448-gram box costs $34.99 Canadian and contains fourteen 32-gram bags. There are seven bags of nacho cheese and seven bags of chili lime in the box. That works out to about $2.50 per bag.

Convenience

The best before date listed on the bags of chips is about ten months from when I bought them. Each bag is individually sized, so they’re perfect to throw in your desk at work, purse, backpack, or lunch. They’re a good option for anyone looking to increase their protein intake.

Nutrition

Calories

One bag of chili lime tortilla chips contains 140 calories, five grams of fat, four grams of carbohydrates, one gram of fibre, zero grams of sugar, 20 grams of protein, and 320 milligrams of sodium. That’s quite a bit of protein for not that many calories!

One bag of Nacho Cheese Quest Protein Chips contains 150 calories, six grams of fat, five grams of carbohydrates, one gram of fibre, one gram of sugar, 18 grams of protein, and 330 milligrams of sodium. The Quest chips are much higher in protein than regular chips!

Ingredients

Although these chips are low in carbs and high in protein, that doesn’t make them especially nutritious. I do like that they have turmeric and chia seeds in them, though! I don’t love seeing vegetable oil, but you’ll find that in pretty much any chips.

The high protein comes from milk protein isolate and whey protein isolate. Both flavors of chips contain milk and soy, and may contain gluten and mustard.

Overall

Give it a try!

These aren’t terrible but they’re not super tasty in my opinion, you can tell they’re not real tortilla chips and are something disguised as chips with stevia and protein added.
