I was excited to see that it’s made with just a few simple ingredients and is both dairy-free and gluten-free, so I picked up a bag to try. This looks like a convenient option for busy days when you need a quick and easy lunch or dinner. But is this Costco grilled chicken actually worth buying? Find out in my review below!

Taste
The Kirkland Signature Grilled Chipotle Chicken has a mild buffalo wing and chipotle flavor, but the saltiness is definitely the first thing I notice. The chicken itself is okay in quality, although it has a slightly processed texture that I’ve noticed with some longer-shelf-life prepared chicken products. Examples of other chicken with a long expiry date are the Naturally Clean Chicken Strips and the Fresh Additions Fully Cooked Chicken Breasts.
Some pieces are better than others, and a few have more gristle than I’d like. It’s not bad tasting, but the chicken is quite salty and I personally prefer the taste and texture of fresh chicken. If you’re looking for a quick and convenient Costco meal, this grilled chipotle chicken is easy to prepare, but don’t expect it to taste like freshly cooked chicken.
Cost
The one-kilogram package of Kirkland Signature Chipotle Chicken costs $16.99 Canadian, which seems like a really reasonable price for such a large package of prepared chicken. I think one package could easily last a family for at least three dinners, depending on how you use it. It would be great for making quick and easy meals like tacos, sandwiches or chipotle bowls.
Convenience
The Kirkland Signature Chipotle Chicken is fully cooked, so you can enjoy it cold straight from the package or heat it up. The best-before date is just over a month from the date I purchased it, and if you don’t think you’ll finish the entire package in time, I think you could portion the chicken into smaller freezer bags and freeze it for later.
There are so many ways to use this convenient Costco chicken! It would be great in tacos, burritos, burrito bowls or salads, making it an easy option for quick lunches and dinners. For a dip/sauce I bet it would be great with the cilantro lime crema from Costco.

The only ingredient I’m not particularly fond of seeing is “natural flavour,” since you don’t really know exactly what that means. The Kirkland Signature Chipotle Chicken is gluten-free, dairy-free and soy-free.

The Costco Kirkland Signature Grilled Chipotle Chicken is definitely convenient since it’s fully cooked and ready to eat. The chipotle flavor is mild, so the chicken isn’t overly spicy, but it is quite salty. I can’t say I’m a huge fan of ready-to-eat chicken with a long best-before date, as I find it tends to have a slightly rubbery, processed texture and is often quite salty. Personally, I prefer the taste and texture of freshly cooked chicken.
