Costco Kirkland Signature Five Cheese Manicotti with Sundried Tomatoes Review

When I spotted the Kirkland Signature Five Cheese Manicotti with Sundried Tomatoes at Costco, I had to take a closer look. I’ve already reviewed the Kirkland Signature Four Cheese and Spinach Manicotti, so I was curious whether this five-cheese version was any different. It is, there’s no spinach, but it’s packed with sundried tomatoes instead. I picked up a tray to try. Read on to find out what I thought!

Location in Store

This manicotti meal is located in the refrigerated pre made meal section at Costco, near the Kirkland Signature Meat Lasagna and the Kirkland Signature Shepherd’s Pie. The item number is 15205.

Taste

I like this manicotti meal, but I’m not totally in love with it. The sundried tomatoes are pretty good and add a chewy texture and a sweet flavour. There isn’t much sauce, and what’s there tastes like a basic tomato sauce.

There’s a good amount of cheese filling in the manicotti, and the pasta is fairly thick and chewy. The different cheeses in the filling are all pretty mild, and the filling is a bit on the dry side. Overall, everything works well together—it’s a cheesy, tomato-forward dish—but it does feel like it’s missing meat. I think it would be better served as a side dish with something like a chicken cutlet.

Cost

There are six large manicotti tubes filled with cheese, topped with even more cheese and sundried tomatoes. The meal costs $16.99 per kilogram at Costco, and I paid $23.45 for my tray. That doesn’t seem very expensive, but keep in mind there’s no meat in the dish.

Convenience

The manicotti needs to be kept refrigerated, and the best-before date is four days from when I purchased it. You could probably freeze it as well. I followed the cooking instructions on the label and baked my manicotti for about 40 minutes.

I recommend serving this with a side salad like the Taylor Farm’s Dill Pickle Salad and some Kirkland Signature Brioche Buns. This isn’t a spicy pasta dish so I think the whole family would enjoy it.

Nutrition

Calories

One fifth of the tray contains 580 calories, 31 grams of fat, 49 grams of carbohydrates, four grams of fibre, 14 grams of sugar, 30 grams of protein and 1180 milligrams of sodium. That’s a ton of sodium! I wasn’t expecting so much protein though, so that’s a bonus!

Ingredients

I like that the ingredient list is fairly simple, with ingredients you’d use at home to make a similar meal. The manicotti contains milk, wheat, egg, and sulphites. It may contain fish, molluscs, crustaceans, tree nuts, peanuts, soy, sesame, and mustard.

Give it a try!

It’s a simple, tasty pasta dish that’s like and filling! I just missed the meat.
