When I think of comfort desserts, a warm slice of apple pie immediately comes to mind. Nothing beats homemade, but the Costco Kirkland Signature Homestyle Apple Pie looks pretty close! I picked it up hoping I’d found the perfect dessert for Thanksgiving. Keep reading to find out if this pie tastes as good as it looks!
Location in Store
The pie is located in the bakery section near the Kirkland Signature Pumpkin Pie and the Kirkland Signature Carrot Cake. The item number is 1039528.
Taste
As the name suggests, this is Costco’s take on the classic plain apple pie. Calling it a “homestyle” pie isn’t quite enough to make it taste like a homemade one, but it’s still a very solid grocery store apple pie.
The crust is good but nothing special — it doesn’t have a lot of flavor. We ate our pie two days after it was packaged, and although the bottom was a bit soggy, the top wasn’t at all.
The crust is more crumbly than flaky, but I wasn’t expecting an amazing crust from a Costco pie. There’s a light glaze on top along with some sugar, which adds a nice touch of sweetness to the crust.
The filling is really tasty, nicely seasoned with a great apple and cinnamon flavor. It’s definitely the highlight of the pie. It’s loaded with apples and has just a hint of spice, mainly cinnamon. It tastes exactly like it should.
I thought the amounts of filling and crust were well balanced. The filling is clearly the star, and the crust complements it nicely without getting in the way.
Cost
The 12-inch Homestyle Apple Pie costs $14.99 Canadian. I’d say one pie serves about eight to ten people a decent-sized slice.
Convenience
The best-before date on the pie is three days from the packaging date. It slices easily and can be frozen either whole or in individual slices.
The pie comes in a plastic, resealable container, and I’ve noticed it gets quite a bit softer the further it is from the packaging date. Apple pie is such a comforting dessert that both adults and kids enjoy, and I think this one makes a perfect addition to a Thanksgiving dinner!

Ingredients
When you bake a pie from scratch, you can choose exactly what goes into the filling and crust, and it’s usually made with just a few simple ingredients. When you buy a pie from the grocery store, it’s not surprising to see ingredients like soy and palm oil, along with various additives and preservatives.

This is a pretty tasty store-bought apple pie and I think anyone who enjoys apple pie wouldn’t mind a slice of it!

Not available at Davie. Until when?
Seeing the picture brings back a lot of disappointment. I trashed my 1st pie because it is so VERY SWEET—- American sweet !!!! The aftertaste of the excessive sugar is so OVERWHELMING that I ended up having to drink a whole bottle of water. 3 years later I bought another one. Same!!!!!!!
I bake my own pie since then.
All these people having bad experiences with Costco’s apple pies really surprise me. We find this pie to be one of the best tasting and most consistently made pies out there regardless of price. It is a gigantic pie that feeds a ton of people and I love the crust better than most people’s homemade pies. Whenever I take one to a potluck, it is the first one to be wiped out, which I think speaks volumes. Not to mention the convenience; it would take you hours of time and a huge mess to make one yourself. Ours used to be $9.99 pre-COVID, which was an insane value, but now they are $12.99 as of 2025 (which is still a total bargain!).
We love Costco apple pie! Much less expensive than you can make at home. It is DELICIOUS!
Bought this for the first time, but I don’t see any kind of reheating instructions on it? Or did you just leave it outside for a bit to bring it to room temperature before serving?
Hey! We bought it at room temperature. If you want warm pie you could microwave a slice for about 15 seconds.
Got a pie December 27/2024. I was the worst pie I have ever tasted. The inside apples were mush and the crust was so watery and thin. I was really disappointed because the last one I had was 3 weeks before and it was so good. I think that they over baked it and the crust rolled it to much and you didn’t have a crust really there. Just disappointed.
They’ve made some improvements to the pie and raised the price. It is decent, but I understand that many people might prefer more sugar and sweetness. However, this pie is too costly. The crust is excessively thick, which adds unnecessary weight. I find that Walmart pies, at the same size, offer better value with a thinner crust overall.
Worst Apple Pie I Have Ever Had In My Entire Life.
The Pie Is Also $9.99 Now Which Makes Me Sad.
Thank you for your review. I literally today just bought the pie for the first time. Smelled so good I couldn’t walk away from it. Plus I love apple pie.
I had a piece as soon as I got home. Your review was smack on!! I have to say my pie doesn’t seem to have a bottom crust. Or it is super thin. What was disappointing, it is very runny. Which made me think there is no pie bottom lol. Eitherway it’s bought and it will be eaten up eventually.
I am disappointed that our local Costco does not carry apple pie anymore.
Hi,
I wonder if you could tell me what kind of apples Coscto uses in their Homestyle Apple Pie #26550 ?
Any insight would be appreciated.
I’m not sure! You’d have to ask Costco and hope that they know!
This is the best pie ever for store-bought you cannot beat this pie for the price point and the amount of pie you get, this pie has outstanding taste. I’ve never tasted such a great apple pie from a store. I’ve had apple pie from one particular grocery store the apples were so hard it’s like they weren’t even baked. I even like the pie crust this pie has and a lot of store-bought pies the crust I do not like.
Sam’s apple pies are better. Costco are too tart. I rather a sweeter pie.
I agree. This is the best apple pie in the market. I love the cryst as well as the filling. I’m looking for a clone recipe as we speak.
Can I order a pie?
Hi Donna! You’d have to contact your local Costco to do this.
If you like apple pie with vanilla ice cream you should try it with chocolate ice cream it’s even better
Question: Is the size and weight of this pie comparable to Costco’s much loved, hot seller, pumpkin pie, or is it smaller?
I, didn’t notice/see, any info on it’s weight, either in your review, or listed on the label closeup photo, plus, there is no widely familiar sized object, beside the pie that would give an indication of it’s size/weight.
(Which is always a great idea, if you want to show others, how big it is.)
l, was a Graphic/Advertising Artist, for many years, and whether in ads or reviews, food products, should always list/show size, and or weight, and preferably both, so others will know how many, they may need to purchase for their event/gathering/or family dinner. (Not being critical, just trying to be helpful, as I, love your reviews. I, was trained to always, be aware of such things/points, when designing ads.)
Thank you, in advance, and thank you again for all of, your great, and extremely helpful product reviews.
Take care.
Ryan
It’s smaller than the pumpkin pie.
Coincidentally I just recently bought this pie. Well I pretty much agree with everything you said about it the one thing which really burned me up was the fact that mine was stuck to the aluminum pie plate and scraping it off made a mess of it, especially the first piece. I have seen this problem with pies in general from a number of places and I have trouble understanding why its is so difficult making a pie which doesn’t end up superglued to the pie plate. When I was young my mother used to make wonderful apple pies from scratch and they were easy to cut and remove and not stuck to anything.
Ah yes, mom’s pie is always #1!
Costco had no inventory of their apple pies in the Toronto area stores yesterday & staff could not inform when.
I bet they’ll be back in August/September.
