Costco BFree High Protein Tortillas Review

Many individuals are trying to eliminate inflammatory foods like gluten and dairy while also looking to increase the amount of protein in their diet. These BFree High Protein Tortillas have 11 grams of protein, are gluten- and dairy-free, and are even keto-friendly! That sounds amazing, right? But do they taste amazing too? Find out below!

Location in Store

These are located in the bakery section at Costco near the Panaji Original Naan Minis and the Orowheat Keto Tortillas. The item number is 1751411.

Taste

I was really hoping to like these tortillas. I was impressed by the fact that they’re gluten-free, dairy-free, and high in protein! Sadly, I didn’t like them at all. On their own, they’re virtually flavorless, and the texture is like a thin piece of cardboard.

With fillings, the tortillas aren’t as bad, but they’re still pretty unappetizing. They have a slightly bitter flavor, and even with plenty of toppings and fillings, they remain bland. To be honest, if these were the only tortillas I could have, I’d rather just put all the filling ingredients in a bowl and skip the tortilla entirely to save the calories.

Cost

The 504-gram package contains 12 tortillas and costs $11.99 Canadian. That’s one dollar per tortilla, which isn’t cheap but also not overly expensive, considering they’re marketed as high-protein as well as dairy- and gluten-free.

Convenience

The best-before date is surprisingly far from the purchase date—about four months! If you’re not going to use them within that time, you probably weren’t going to use them at all. Just kidding—you can freeze them.

These tortillas can be used to make tacos, breakfast burritos, or any kind of wrap. They taste better when heated, so I recommend microwaving them for about 10 seconds first.

Nutrition

Calories

One tortilla contains 100 calories, 3 grams of fat, 8 grams of carbohydrates, 5 grams of fiber, 3 grams of sugar, 11 grams of protein, and 105 milligrams of sodium. I like that they’re low in calories, fat, and carbohydrates.

I also appreciate that they’re high in protein and fiber! What I don’t love is the flavor. While the nutrition facts are great, they don’t quite make up for the overall taste.

Ingredients

The ingredient list includes some healthy items like milled brown flax seeds, but also several less healthy ones such as dextrose, natural flavoring, sunflower oil, and mono- and diglycerides. The tortillas are gluten-free, dairy-free, and keto-friendly.

Overall

Walk on by!

Even if you’re watching your carbohydrate intake or looking for a gluten-free, dairy-free tortilla, I wouldn’t recommend these. The nutrition facts are great, but the taste just isn’t there. My favorite tortillas are the Dempsters Ancient Grains Tortillas from Costco.

  1. I was curious to read your review on these and couldn’t agree more, they taste quite terrible in my opinion and im not picky at all. I was as disappointed in them as i was excited when i bought them. Nobody in the family liked them either

  2. I had high hopes for these wraps and hands down, the worst tasting product. I gave it away to a friend and SHE gave it away – third person threw them out. For me, it was around the odor – these were gross. Like you said, walk on by!

  3. Thanks for the honest review! I almost picked these up last week but hesitated because I wasn’t sure about the taste. High protein and gluten-free sounds great on paper, but if the flavor and texture aren’t there, it’s hard to justify the price. I’ll probably stick with heating up the regular tortillas I enjoy instead. Appreciate you saving me from a disappointing purchase!
