Costco Chateau Fougeres Garlic & Cheese Pull Apart Brioches Review

Garlic and cheese is one of those flavor combinations that almost everyone loves, myself included. When I spotted these Chateau Fougeres Garlic & Cheese Pull-Apart Brioches at Costco, I had to try them. A few other shoppers were grabbing them at the same time, which made me hopeful they were a hidden gem. Unfortunately, they didn’t live up to how delicious they looked, read on to find out why!

Location in Store

The garlic & cheese pull apart brioche is located in the refrigerated deli section, near the Kirkland Signature Basil Pesto and the Rana Beef & Short Rib Lasagna. The item number is 1939570.

Taste

This looks delicious when you pull it out of the oven, but sadly the taste doesn’t match the appearance. The outside is very dry and crumbly, and because it’s so dry, it doesn’t pull apart into nice big pieces. Instead, it tears off in little chunks that fall apart.

Some pieces taste very plain, while others have pockets of cheese and garlic that are far too salty. You’re either getting a tasteless bite or an overly salty one. It’s not terrible, but it would be much better if the garlic and cheese were evenly distributed.

Cost

The 660-gram box comes with two brioches and costs $9.97 Canadian at Costco. That seems pretty reasonable, considering all the packaging, but after tasting them, I can see why they’re priced so low.

Convenience

Each brioche is individually wrapped in plastic and comes in a cardboard tray. To heat it, bake it in the oven at 300°F for 15 minutes. It comes out slightly crispy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. The brioche is a product of France.

Brioches like this would work well served with pasta or even as an appetizer. The garlic and cheese brioches need to be kept refrigerated, and the best-before date is only five days from when I purchased them. The packaging also states that they were previously frozen and should not be frozen again.

Ingredients

The ingredients list is pretty straightforward, without tons of chemicals, additives, or artificial flavors. That’s probably why the best-before date is so short. The brioches contain wheat, milk, and egg, and may contain crustaceans, fish, soy, tree nuts, mustard, sesame, and molluscs.
