Costco offers a variety of cakes that seem to change with the seasons. When I spotted this new Kirkland Signature Limoncello Mascarpone Cake, it looked like the perfect choice for spring or Easter. It’s a large cake, but at $26.99, it isn’t the most affordable option among grocery store desserts. So, is it worth the price? Read on to find out!

This cake is located in the refrigerated bakery section of Costco, near the Kirkland Signature Tiramisu Scoop Cake and the Kirkland Signature New York Style Strawberry Cheesecake. The item number is 2044669.
Taste
This is an awesome cake! It has a zesty lemon flavor that’s beautifully balanced by layers of creamy mascarpone and white chocolate spread. On top is a light whipped icing with little dollops of lemon curd. The lemon curd itself is very tangy but not overly sweet. I think you have to really like lemon to fully enjoy this cake.
The cake itself is light, fluffy, and moist, with a noticeable lemon flavor. The outside is adorned with white chocolate balls, which I could take or leave, but don’t mind.
I love that this cake isn’t overly sweet and instead has a nice, strong lemon flavor. It’s lemony, creamy, and absolutely delicious! Note that despite being a limoncello cake, there’s no alcohol listed in the ingredients.
Cost
The cake costs $26.99 Canadian and serves at least 10 people generously sized portions. If you cut smaller slices, it can easily serve even more. While it isn’t inexpensive for a grocery store cake, it’s still far more affordable than one from a standalone bakery. Also, keep in mind the ingredients to make a cake like this at home would cost far more than thirty dollars.
Convenience
The cake needs to be kept refrigerated, and the best-before date is five days from the date of purchase. You could also easily freeze it and thaw it later if you don’t expect to finish it in time. This makes it a perfect dessert for Easter, a spring barbecue, or any get-together.
