Costco Kirkland Signature Mini Filled Donuts Review

When I first picked up Costco’s Kirkland Signature Mini Filled Donuts, I assumed the black ones were chocolate but they’re actually tinted with charcoal. The orange donuts are filled with passionfruit, and the black ones have a red-berry jelly. After trying both, I’m not sure I’m a fan, read on to find out why.

Location in Store

These are located in the bakery section at Costco, near the Kirkland Signature Ginger Cookies and the Kirkland Signature Cookies & Cream Swirl Danishes. The item number is

Taste

The main thing I noticed is that these donuts don’t quite taste like real donuts. Both the dough and the filling are off. The dough has kind of a bready flavor and the filling is very dense and sweet. It’s possible the two things are related; I think the filling makes the donuts a bit damp/heavy.

The dough for the passionfruit mini beignet doesn’t have much flavor. Mainly it just tastes slightly sweet. The flavor of the passionfruit filling dominates as is quite tasty but rather sweet. It’s kind of more of a paste and not a thinner jelly like you see in most filled donuts.

The dough for the red fruit beignet doesn’t have much flavor either. I thought it was chocolate when I bought them but it’s not, they’re just colored black with charcoal. Once again, the filling is a sweet paste and its berry flavor dominates. I like the flavor of this donut a bit better than the passionfruit.

There’s something different about these donuts. They’re not awful, but they don’t taste like regular filled, mini donuts.

Cost

The pack comes with 24 mini filled beignets/donuts and I paid $13.99 Canadian for the pack. That’s just over 50 cents per donut.

Convenience

I bought the donuts a day after they were packaged and they were already a bit damp/soggy. I’d be curious to try them on the day they were packaged to see if the texture was any different. The best before date listed on the label is three days from when they were packaged.

These are a small sweet treat that I think kids would enjoy because every kid I’ve met seems to love mini donuts! They work as a snack or dessert and do not contain nuts so should be okay for a kids party or to bring to school.

Ingredients

There is ingredients for the passionfruit mini donuts and the red fruit mini donuts. Both flavors have a lot of ingredients I don’t love to see but expect when I’m buying a grocery-store made baked item.

Ingredients like palm fat, glucose-fructose syrup, rapeseed oil and a ton of preservatives and additives. The donuts contain milk, egg and wheat and may contain tree nuts, peanut, soy and sesame.

Give it a try!

These are tasty enough, just not exactly what I expected! I prefer the Kirkland Signature Variety Mini Donuts pack.
