Costco Kirkland Signature Pistachio Chocolate Cake Review

Dubai chocolate and pistachio chocolate treats are all the rage right now, so it’s no surprise that Costco has released this new Kirkland Signature Pistachio Chocolate Cake to capitalize on the trend! I love chocolate cake and can take or leave pistachio, but I was still excited to try this cake, despite not loving the Kirkland Signature Pistachio Cake Costco carried two years ago. I picked it up for Easter dessert, and my family and I were eager to see how it compared. Read on to find out what we thought!

Location in Store

This cake is located in the refrigerated bakery section of Costco near the Kirkland Signature Limoncello Mascarpone Cake and the Kirkland Signature Tiramisu Scoop Cake. The item number is 1982034.

Taste

We had this cake for Easter dessert and everyone enjoyed it. It’s very moist and chocolaty, but surprisingly not too sweet! Although it’s a chocolate pistachio cake, the pistachio flavor is much subtler than the chocolate.

The bottom has a crispy layer that’s exactly like the knafeh you find in Dubai chocolate. Between the cake layers, there are layers of white chocolate cream. The top and sides of the cake are covered in a very rich, decadent, chocolaty ganache.

There are also nice chocolate shavings on the sides of the cake and pistachio pieces on top that add some crunchy texture. I love chocolate, so this cake is a dream for me. I love how moist and rich it is, while not being as sweet as I thought it would be. The crunchy layer on the bottom is also really unique for a cake.

Cost

This is a large, heavy cake! It weighs almost two kilograms and could easily feed 12–16 people a decent-sized piece. The cost of the cake is $18.91 per kilogram, so the cake I picked up cost $34.99 Canadian.

Convenience

The cake needs to be kept refrigerated and has already been frozen, but I personally feel that you can freeze it again if you have leftovers. The best-before date is five days from the date it was packaged. This cake is an awesome dessert for any celebration or dinner party. It’s very rich, so a little goes a long way.

Nutrition

Calories

1/24 of the cake contains 300 calories, 19 grams of fat, 31 grams of carbohydrates, 1 gram of fibre, 23 grams of sugar, 4 grams of protein, and 160 milligrams of sodium. When I served this cake, the slices were much larger than 1/24 of the cake, so the pieces we had contained a lot more calories, fat, sugar, and so on.

Ingredients

The ingredients list doesn’t seem that long, but I feel like some ingredients have been abbreviated, such as the “chocolaty confectionery,” “pistachio-vermicelli filling,” “chocolate curls,” and “white chocolate flavoured confectionery.” The cake contains milk, egg, pistachios, soy, and wheat. It may also contain other tree nuts, peanuts, sesame, barley, oats, and mustard.
