Costco Kirkland Signature Stuffed Chicken Breasts Review

Costco offers a wide selection of pre-made meals, but many tend to be heavy on the carbs. If you’re looking for something lower in carbs and higher in protein, the Kirkland Signature Stuffed Chicken Breasts are worth considering. They’re filled with tangy feta, crisp asparagus, and earthy spinach for a flavorful, satisfying option.

Location in Store

These stuffed chicken breasts are located in the refrigerated deli section at Costco near the seasoned chicken wings and stuffed salmon. The item number is 22849.

Taste

The chicken is very nicely seasoned and quite salty, but good. The seasoning used seems to be mainly just salt. The feta cheese inside is very mild and not pungent or strong; it adds a nice creamy tang. I like the asparagus too — it tastes quite fresh.

I thought the asparagus would be soggy, but it’s still kind of crunchy, which is a good thing in my opinion! Inside the chicken, there is also spinach, which I think is kind of unnecessary and I’d personally leave it out. The spinach has a bit of an earthy flavor, which some might not love.

The combination of all the ingredients together is really tasty, although the chicken is a bit on the salty side. The quality of the chicken also seems to be good quality, without any gristle or fat. I think the majority of people will enjoy this meal; the chicken may be dried out just a touch from grilling it.

Cost

The cost of the chicken is $22.49 per kilogram and depends on the weight of your tray. I paid $23.84 Canadian for my 1.060-kilogram tray of stuffed chicken.

An entire tray of about eight fresh chicken breasts at Costco costs around $32.00 Canadian, so you’re definitely paying for the convenience factor. A bit of asparagus, feta, and spinach wouldn’t cost that much.

Convenience

We barbecued the chicken, and it took a while to cook—longer than the instructions called for. We used a thermometer to check that the internal temperature reached 165 degrees Fahrenheit, and I recommend others do the same. When we initially pulled the chicken off the grill, it wasn’t anywhere near done.

The chicken has a best-before date that’s four days from the packaging date and needs to be kept refrigerated. You could probably freeze it without any issue as well. I suggest serving it with rice, quinoa, couscous, or potatoes. You could also add a simple garden salad to keep it low-carb!

Nutrition

Calories

One piece of chicken contains 410 calories, 20 grams of fat, six grams of carbohydrates, one gram of fibre, two grams of sugar, 54 grams of protein, and 640 milligrams of sodium. The chicken breasts are quite large, so only half of a stuffed chicken breast may be enough to satisfy some.

The high fat content comes from the marinade and feta. I love how much protein they have, and the amount of sodium isn’t extreme either. They’re also low in carbs, which is great for anyone following a low-carb diet.

Ingredients

The ingredients list is pretty short and simple, with chicken, asparagus, feta, and spinach being the main ingredients. The stuffed chicken breasts contain milk and may contain egg, soy, fish, shellfish, crustaceans, tree nuts, peanuts, sesame, wheat, and mustard. I wish they used olive oil in the marinade instead of canola oil, as olive oil is less inflammatory!
