I’ve previously reviewed the chocolate Mid-Day Squares from Costco, which I really enjoy and keep stocked in my home, so when I spotted these new No Bread PB&J Mid-Day Squares during my last Costco visit, I immediately picked them up. I was initially surprised when I opened one and noticed there wasn’t any chocolate like there is in the other Mid-Day Squares I’ve tried. Instead, these No Bread PB&J Mid-Day Squares have a thick peanut butter base topped with a layer of jelly. Find out what I thought of this new PB&J flavor and whether I think it’s worth buying by reading my review below!

Location in Store
These are located in the refrigerated deli area near the other refrigerated desserts like the Summ! Apple Pie Rolls with Caramel Sauce and the Le Chic Patisserie French Macarons. The item number is 1873582.

Taste
I think Mid-Day Squares absolutely nailed the classic peanut butter and jelly flavor with these squares. I tried both the grape and strawberry flavors, and I love that they each have a distinct fruit flavor without tasting artificial. They’re sweet but not overly sweet, making them a satisfying option when you’re craving something sugary.

I was a little unsure about the texture of the jelly when I first saw the squares and worried the flavor might be off, but it actually tastes just like the classic jelly I remember having as a kid. The peanut butter layer is soft but dense, with tiny pieces of peanuts that add a nice bit of texture. Overall, these do a great job of recreating the nostalgic PB&J flavor in a convenient snack.

Cost
The box costs $14.99 Canadian and contains six of each flavor, 12 bars in total. I think that’s pretty reasonable because I know at my local grocery store one Mid-Day Square costs well over $2.00 per individual square.

Convenience
One thing to note is that these Mid-Day Squares need to be kept refrigerated. They look like they could be stored on the shelf, but because they’re made with simple, clean ingredients, they need to be refrigerated to help preserve their freshness.

The best-before date is about four months from when I purchased them, and I’ve frozen Mid-Day Squares before without any issues. I love having these on hand for a sweet snack, but I mainly find myself enjoying them after dinner when I’m craving a little treat.

I love that Mid-Day Squares are gluten-free, dairy-free and plant-based. These definitely aren’t a superfood or amazingly nutritious but they have a lot of great ingredients and are cleaner compared to others treats.

I like the use of maple syrup, pea protein, Jerusalem artichoke fiber, fava bean protein, apple cider vinegar and olive oil.
