Whenever Costco starts selling a new salad kit, I immediately pick it up because my family eats a ton of pre-packaged salads! I wasn’t too excited to try this new Taylor Farms Crispy Rice & Edamame Salad because I can’t tolerate super spicy foods, and the chili crunch vinaigrette had me a bit worried. Read on to find out whether it was too hot for me to handle!

Location in Store
This salad kit is located in the cold produce room, near the Taylor Farms Dill Pickle Salad and the Eat Smart Sweet Kale Salad Kit. The item number is 2109.
Taste
This salad has some unique flavors and textures. We eat a lot of salads, and I feel like I’ve tried pretty much every salad kit out there. My favorite part of this salad is the crispy rice; I really enjoy both its texture and flavor.

The salad dressing is fairly spicy and also quite sweet, creating a nice balance between heat and sweetness. The edamame is tasty and adds a slightly buttery, nutty flavor. The cabbage and romaine taste fresh and crisp.
I’m a bit of a wimp when it comes to spice and heat, so I probably wouldn’t personally buy this again, as I found it a little too intense for me. The heat lingers in your mouth for a while, and it also builds as you continue eating the salad.

Cost
This 547-gram salad kit costs $7.99 Canadian at Costco. It’s quite a large salad kit and also contains a quite a bit of toppings and dressing!
Convenience
The salad kit needs to be kept refrigerated, and the best-before date is about four days from when I purchased it. It would work well as a lunch for work, I think you could get two lunches out of one kit. It also makes a great side salad. If you’re planning to have it as your main meal, I recommend adding some steak or grilled chicken for extra protein.

Nutrition
Calories
One cup of salad, or a 100-gram serving, contains 100 calories, six grams of fat, 16 grams of carbohydrates, three grams of fibre, six grams of sugar, four grams of protein, and 230 milligrams of sodium. This isn’t exactly a low-calorie, low-fat, or low-sugar salad, especially considering that most people will eat more than a 100-gram serving. If you want to reduce the fat and sugar a bit, I recommend using less dressing.

Ingredients
The ingredients list isn’t as long as I was expecting, and there aren’t many unhealthy ingredients in the salad. While the canola oil in the dressing isn’t as healthy as olive oil, the salad still contains many great, nutritious ingredients. Allergens it contains are sesame seeds, soy, tree nuts, and wheat.

Overall
Give it a try!
Although I found the dressing in this salad kit a bit too spicy for my liking, I think many people who can tolerate moderately spicy foods would really enjoy it! My favorite salad kit from Costco is probably the Baja Chopped Salad Kit.
