Costco offers such a great variety of options in its pre-made meal section, including favorites like chicken chow mein, lasagna, tacos, and this Kirkland Signature Gyro Pita Kit. This meal kit comes with meat, tomatoes, an onion, red pepper, cucumber mixture, tzatziki, and soft pita bread, everything you need to make your own pita. After trying it, would I buy it again? Read on to find out!

Location in Store
This is located in the pre-made meal section at Costco, near the Kirkland Signature Shrimp Tempura Tacos and the Kirkland Signature Shepherd’s Pie. The item number is 29239.

Taste
Upon first examining this meal kit, I wasn’t sure I would like the meat. It’s a combination of beef and lamb, and it looked really dry. It actually turns out to be quite greasy and not as dry as it looks! However, it can get pretty tough if you overcook it in the pan. The meat is heavily seasoned and quite salty.

The mixture of red pepper, cucumber, parsley, and chives is nice, but there isn’t a lot of it. The tomatoes are simply sliced cherry tomatoes, and there are two packets of tzatziki sauce, which tastes great. I love tzatziki.

The pita bread is fresh-tasting, soft, fluffy, and thick. My biggest complaint is that the kit doesn’t contain any feta cheese, which would have been a nice addition. I also found the texture of the meat a bit tough after heating it, although it produced a ton of grease in the pan while cooking. I do like how flavorful the meat is, and I enjoyed all the accompaniments.

Cost
I paid $18.70 for my Kirkland Signature Gyro Pita Greek Style meal from Costco in 2020. In 2026, the kit costs $24.87 Canadian, or $19.99 per kilogram. Back in 2020, the kit included one large container of tzatziki instead of packets, so I think it was a slightly better deal then.

Convenience
This meal kit is really convenient because it contains everything you need to assemble a pita. All you have to do is heat the meat and pita bread in a pan.

The meal needs to be kept refrigerated, and the best-before date is five days from the date of purchase. You may want to serve it with a big garden salad, some rice, or Greek potatoes!

Nutrition
Calories
1/8th of the kit contains 340 calories, 20 grams of fat, 26 grams of carbohydrates, one gram of fibre, five grams of sugar, 12 grams of protein and 510 milligrams of sodium. That’s not as much sodium as I was expecting! I think a lot of people would eat more than 1/8th of the container though.

Ingredients
I don’t love that there’s soy protein concentrate in the meat, I think it should just be beef and lamb and no soy. I also don’t love seeing canola oil listed a few times but it seems canola oil is in pretty much everything. The Gyro Pita Kit from Costco contains wheat, soy, rye and milk and may contain tree nuts, peanuts, egg, sesame, fish, molluscs, crustaceans and mustard.

I grew up in the Parc-X area of Montreal, surrounded by Greek restaurants, and one of my favorites was a place called Zorba’s. I would regularly have a gyro and a Greek salad there, at least twice a week. They were so good and the restaurant was frequented by a lot of Greek people, making you feel as if the food was authentic.
The gyro was very simple. It was just a pita bread with marinated onions, a lot of meat, and a lot of tzatziki. And that was it, and they were delicious. I always had a Greek salad along with it, and unlike what a lot of other places call a Greek salad, this Greek salad was also very simple. It was a bed of marinated onions with a bunch of sliced tomatoes on top of it, and a big piece of feta cheese, and a couple of kalamata olives. That was it. No lettuce, no cucumbers, none of the other junk you see masquerading as Greek salads. Unless I had a container full of tzatziki already at home, I don’t think I would buy this kit because there is obviously nowhere near enough tzatziki to make more than one sandwich. Where I live now, there is a Greek restaurant nearby and I decided to try them out one day, But to my dismay, the gyro that I bought was half filled with lettuce. It was terrible and certainly not what I expected. But apparently, that’s how they make the sandwich look bigger, by stuffing it with lettuce. Very disappointing. I guess if I have to have a gyro, I will have to go and see if Zorba’s is still alive because I know that I’ll get a good gyro there.
We used to buy this about once a month, then it was gone from our Costco. Last week when I was there is was back. So I bought it. Just as good as before.
How is it less of a deal if the sauce is in packets? Its all done by weight so I dont understand that rationale
got sick from gyro kit sick all weekend do not buy
A few tips to elevate this to perfection!
It all freezes perfectly if you don’t finish it, or you buy 2!
Air fry the meat til it’s a bit more brown and crispy (but not too much) than you had it- also removes more fat. I cook the onions and tomatoes in with the meat
Toast the pita bread a little to soften it (works straight from frozen, just toast it more) and spread the tzatziki on it.
Add the meat, some cucumber, fresh tomato, sliced long chilis (a polish store near me has some amazing ones), hot sauce (I like Valentina extra hot, it’s really not very hot).
One of my favourite meals, and definitely one of the best things at Costco.
Sauce was not good had chunks of pickle instead of fresh cut cucumber! Huge flavor difference between a pickle and cucumber
I think this is great; I just toss in some extras like lettuce and cukes. Everyone in the fam loves it.
Great idea!
I’ve seen this item in the cooler but what made me want to try it was getting something for a summer dinner that didn’t require cooking. The package contains 8 pita breads, sliced cherry tomatoes, sliced red onions, a container of tzakziki, and a ton of sliced cooked beef. Instead of heating up the meat and bread in a pan on the stove, I decided to microwave them instead to reduce cooking in hot weather. After assembling my sandwich from hot and cold components, I found this item exceeded my expectations and I certainly will be buying it again. Great way to get a nutritious meal in the summer with no stove time.
We purchased this kit in Dartmouth on Saturday and loved it. Lightly stir fried the meat and sautéed the pita bread. Serve with a Greek salad. The sauce is very tasty. I would definitely buy it again.
A lot better with donair sauce
I’ve heard that!
As someone who typically has all of the other ingredients at hand, it would be great if Costco sold just their gyro meat as an item versus having to buy the whole “kit”.
Yes!!!!!!!!
