Costco Bachan’s The Original Japanese Barbecue Sauce Review

I’ve tried all kinds of barbecue sauces from Costco, including Kinder’s Honey Hot BBQ Sauce, Heinz Pitmaster Collection Barbecue Sauce, and Bulls-Eye Barbecue Sauce. I’d never tried Japanese barbecue sauce before, so when I spotted Bachan’s Japanese Barbecue Sauce at Costco, I knew I had to give it a try! Find out whether I’d buy it again by reading the review below.

Location in Store

This is located in the sauce and seasonings aisle at Costco, near the Rao’s Marinara Sauce and the Kinder’s The Chicken Sauce Dipping Sauce. The item number is 1738943.

Taste

This sauce is definitely unique. It’s very salty and sweet and reminds me of teriyaki sauce. It also has a flavor that’s similar to sweet soy sauce.

The texture is quite thin, so it works well as a marinade, dipping sauce, or even drizzled over stir-fry. I used it as a dipping sauce for chicken, but next time I think I’ll use it as a marinade for kabobs.

Cost

The 739-milliliter bottle of sauce costs $12.99 Canadian, which seems comparable to the price of other similar sauces available at Costco.

Convenience

The sauce needs to be refrigerated after opening and has a best-before date that’s about eight months from when I purchased it. It’s made in the USA. As I mentioned earlier, this Japanese Barbecue Sauce is very versatile.

You can use it anywhere you’d normally use teriyaki sauce, whether as a marinade, dipping sauce, or glaze. The sauce is cold-filled, preservative free and BPA free.

Nutrition

Calories

Two tablespoons of the barbecue sauce contain 80 calories, less than one gram of fat, 18 grams of carbohydrates, zero grams of fibre, 17 grams of sugar, two grams of protein, and 1,050 milligrams of sodium. That’s an incredible amount of sodium and sugar for just two tablespoons!

Ingredients

The ingredients list is relatively short and made up of simple ingredients you might use if you were making barbecue sauce at home. The sauce is vegan and contains wheat, soy, and sesame.

  1. Great review. When I first tried it, I liked the flavor on stir fry, etc. But over time the sugar content became too much for me. A little bit goes a long way, and it comes in a BIG bottle from Costco. I didn’t purchase it again.
